I have a '22 Big Bend and I drive an average of around 31 miles per day. Two thirds of my daily mileage is highway. I run 93 octane fuel. I am not a drive it easy or an every light is a drag race driver. I like to get to speed quickly and settle in. I have 235/60R18 Continental tires. I don't do hand calculations. The mpg on the dash is close enough for as much as I care. And it shows 28.4-28.6.

We recently took a trip from the Rochester NY area down to Legoland in Goshen. I reset trip 2 when I fueled up. Most of the trip was highway at 73-74 mph through the hills of Central NY, North Eastern PA and the Catskill Mountains. On the way down I started around 32-33 indicated, but by the time I drove home we were right back at the same 28.5 I see most of the time.

I drive like you but i also have the JMS Pedal Max and i like to take off fast and drag race especially with my Mustang.

I drive 80 mile R/T to work, my OB turned out to be a surprising econobox considering it was never engineered for milage. After just over 45K my longterm average is now 34.1 mpg. Confirmed by hand calcs and adjusting the fuel bias settings every 10K. That is accomplished by doing the speed limit, using cruise as much as possible and adding some intake and exhaust mods. Adding more tricks like Amsoil, higher tire pressure and using Eco Mode makes it a great recipe for mpg. My take on people who want to drive 10, 20 over the speed limit is they are throwing money out the window. I just give them the road and stay out of the way. Besides that if I stay on the right it's not a problem. I know there are thousands other's just like me on the right doing the same thing. I just never see them as we are all doing the same speed. The sweet spot for highway driving is between 55 and 60. I have to say that a headwind will definintely effect mpg, one the other side a good tailwind helps too. The best one tank trip I ever got was around 650 miles but generally it's above 500.

so you put bigger than stock tires on it, did you recalibrate the speedo? and how does that size fit , any issues? thats a more common size than the stock 225/60/r18's it comes with...

Filled the tank about 45 miles freeway at 60 to 70 mph.

While it's certainly fun and gratifying to see a number like that on your indicator, you should realize there are far too many variables involved to extrapolate that out to an overall average. And that doesn't even take into account the inherent inaccuracies in the algorithm the computer uses to compute fuel economy.

Ok, so I am not complaining about my milage, inface I am pleasantly surprised. I bought a 2023 outer banks a little over a week ago with 29000km on it (18000 miles) I replaced my commuter car which i drive 200km (120 miles) to work round trip every day. so with the factory sticker saying 8.4L/100km (28mi/gal) highway, I was on so that is a little more than my fusion got but still not bad. so last set at work (800km / 500miles) I averaged 6.9L/100km or 34 mil/gal US and this last 4 days I used eco mode and got it down to 6.8L/100km or 34.5 mi/gal. these numbers worked out with in 0.05L/100km between hand calculated and the trip computer, so there is no issue there. and for what it is worth I drive 1/2 the distance at 110kph (68mph) and the other half of the trip at 120kph (74.5mph) with a short stretch (2 to 4 miles) with 4 sets of traffic lights and a 50mph speed limit.

has anyone else gotten better milage than its supposed to?

My son has a 2023 Outer Banks and he's consistently getting over 35mpg. I'm getting an average of 30-31 on my 2024 Big Bend. I wonder if that 18" wheel and short sidewalls are doing the trick on the Outer Banks?

For sure Mark. My 2021 BL is consistently showing at least 1.5 MPG over the actual calculated MPG.

MPG by tank fill up is a better accurate measurement.

My '23 OBX (1.5L) gets 23-24 mpg (23.8 right now) consistently...and I do little to no highway miles.

I have a 21 FE and two weeks ago I was able to get 32 MPG on cruise at 65 MPH.

While driving my 21 FE 2.0 I recently obtained 32 MPG on a Highway trip doing 65 on cruise.

While off roading up north for the weekend, I found the secret sauce. Stay off road as much as you can with your top speed never getting over 45 and slow to brake and take off from a stop. First time ever getting over 30 mpg! I wouldn’t recommend this process on the interstate!

I recently traded our 2022 big bend with just under 28k. She consistently averaged between 26-28 mpg in every day driving. This is per the hand calculation which was generally 1 mpg lower than the trip calculation, which I always reset at fill up. We took a 3000 mile round trip from Colorado to Las Vegas and SoCal during the summer of 23 that I've detailed in other threads and we averaged 34.4 mpg on that trip. We now have a 2024 big bend that I consider to still be in the break in mileage of 1900. It's averaging between 25.5 and 26.2 currently. The 22 was similar until around 2500 miles when it jumped up to its long term averages. I don't take it too easy on my BSBB, either one. I won't rev past 4,000 until I pass the 2500 mile mark and even then I won't rev beyond that too often but I will if I have to. The computer will adapt the motor to my driving style. I keep a running record of my fill ups, being anal about info that can help me identify any potential abnormalities, it also satisfies my ocd.

so you put bigger than stock tires on it, did you recalibrate the speedo? and how does that size fit , any issues? thats a more common size than the stock 225/60/r18's it comes with...

I checked my speed with the new tires against the speedometer using a GPS speedometer app on my phone. It was right on the money. Both speedometers matched each other.

To each, there own. If I wanted exceptional fuel economy I would have bought a Prius. I'll pay a few extra dollars to run the going MPH for a given stretch of road. I don't want to be the fastest guy or the slowest guy on the road and I definitely don't want to be the one gumming up the works for everyone else. If you can't or don't want to travel the prevailing speed, stay off the highway please. There are enough rolling road hazards as it is.

It's more than getting exceptional fuel economy, it's more of hobby. And a Prius, not my cup of tea. I didn't buy my BS for milage, just the opposite. I liked the retro look with the tech, I'm a life long Ford guy too so it was time to gift myself with a new car. The big surprise was it turned out to be fairly economical. I decided to capitolize on that and see just how much more I could get out of it. I put another $1000 dollars into it with intake and exhaust mods, some other tricks and tunes and got even more out of it. As I mentioned, just a fun hobby really, unfortunately I ran out of things to do to it.

something like that should be measured in 10th of a mile/gal not 5mpg so I wouldn't suspect that.
