Sorry to hear that. Extra miles, I mean km :), was probably them moving it around quite a few times. Probably had picked up a few scrapes along the way.

I've never had Ford before but I assume it's no different then other car makers with various QC check points. How that was not discovered by the final QC is beyond me.

well-- just a few weeks after getting the vehicle back from the shop for a repair to paint chips, I was driving down the freeway --- heard a poof and crackle.. moonroof shattered.

dont think anything hit me (there's no souveniers sitting inside my moonroof screen). Was only a few miles away from a dealership so I limped it there, and they said its likely an insurance claim--- but under 1000 miles, this vehicle is fragile! :-(

I have heard of this happening on other vehicles without an apparent cause.

Tell me more about this-- "waiting for them to install on new builds"... that's interesting to me...
Lack of parts reported. Now the Big Bend package does not include moonroof.

While I certainly understand determining the liable party would serve justice, it sounds like the insurance company accepts the situation and comprehensive claims typically don't affect rates. Hopefully the OP won't be out, except for downtime.

It would be nice, for the bigger picture, for a glass specialist to evaluate the debris to determine if the glass is truly safe. I'm certainly only speculating, but many of us noted what appears to be an abnormal failure of automotive safety glass. We said this based off of a single photo complicated by ceiling and windows reflections, but it certainly looks like there are some jagged edges and the potential for shards. If so, I wouldn't want that flying around the cabin during an accident, especially if driven by front and side curtain airbags. There's a lot more material there than in a Takata airbag inflator. Hopefully, the glass is not a problem.
May not raise your rates but it does count toward incidents. Stand your ground because you may pay down the road.

It almost looks like the glass was made without the laminate inner layer that's supposed to hold the glass together in the event of a break.
I believe that is only required on the windshield. Side windows do not have them or a punch would not work in an emergency.

My 2008 or so Taurus brand new imploded with 250 miles on odometer, it was definitely tempered glass ,they replaced it immediately.Wow that is the first I heard of a laminated moonroof, did not know that was a thing.
Only windshields are laminated.

appreciate all of the input here-- hopefully this doesnt happen to others.

Updated ETA is June 14th for the glass, should have it back the next day. Hoping it comes in sooner, but wouldnt be surprised if it takes longer either.

I am honestly not shocked...the moon roof as morbid as this may sound...is also a high risk ejection point. Side windows not so much due to nature of roll over mechanism. And as mentioned, the side windows blow with a punch like they are supposed to. Fractured into millions of tiny pieces

What it sounds more like is there was something in the pocket the glass goes into and when it was last closed it closed on it, then you hit a bump and the edge is the weakest point on tempered glass causing it to explode. Ask me all you want about tempered I work with tempered glass
