Make my day -- hook up that BT!
If I had experienced an issue, it would already be hooked up. I have been expecting to have one, it just hasn’t happened at all.

You're probably aware of this, but a battery can be damaged from being kept below 100% SOC, and still appear to be fine (i.e., still start the engine).

Connecting a BT is in the "can't hurt, might help" category.

Keeping the battery on a trickle charger extends the life of the battery for many years. I believe when the battery is low, sulfates build on the plates, shortening battery life.

You might not be missing much. I looked into how various tools like Torque Pro etc. measures SOC. Ask the manufacturer how their tool measures SOC.

Look into Battery SOH as well.

There are also tables like these that battery manufacturers and other produce:

The second chart above is for sealed lead-acid batteries. Here's one for FLA batteries:

Ford Bronco Sport 12 volt battery charge state detection recall coming out. 1713390908038-3z

The charts I've seen vary a bit. For example 100% SOC might be anywhere from 12.60 to 12.70 volts.

Thank you … I corrected and deleted that 2nd chart, just showing the chart for AGM Batteries in the above post.
No problem. I've made the same mistake. Google images shows a variety of SOC charts, even if you specify FLA.

I have a 24 BS loaner for a couple of days. I have it in the garage and with everything off I opened the door but did not start the engine. I popped the hood to look at the engine compartment and noticed the headlight fans had turned on. I a assuming the headlight fan running in a situation like that could be a drain on the battery. I would have thought there would be no need for the headlight fan to be on unless the headlights actually were turned on. I did not clock how long the fans stayed on. What else is waking up in situations other than starting the engine and starting the car.

Received an email from NHTSA regarding 12 volt battery recall that affects 2021 - 2024 Bronco Sports built through March 13, 2024. Owner notification letters to be mailed after May 13, 2024.

I wonder if this is why my dealer was so happy to change my battery when I went in for the fuel injector recall. I reported that the stop start wasn't working and to please check the battery. When I picked up the car they told me they had put in a new one?

Your dealer may have detected damage to your original battery, or had previous experience with multiple customers with the same Start-Stop/battery problem. Fastest solution for his shop is just replace the battery.

I've noticed the same thing.

Just yesterday I was checking the battery voltage with my Fluke meter. It was 12.58V -- a bit low but not bad. Then I opened the door and the usual lights and displays turned on, along with the headlight fans. The fans continued to run after everything else turned off. The battery voltage was 12.38V with only the fans on. That's a significant load..

I've wondered the same thing -- why design the fans to run when the lights are off and cool? Not only are they an unnecessary load, it will cause the fans to fail sooner than they otherwise would.

In ye olden days, nothing -- except perhaps a dome lite -- turned on when a door was opened.

If the battery SOC was low, it got charged (subject to engine rpm and any other loads on the alternator). That system worked very well. An unsophisticated caveman mechanic might get the impression that modern cars have become too 'smart' for their own good.

I definitely get a annoyed when I'm either camping or just popping into the garage to grab something real quick from my BS and the headlight fans turn on from 2 seconds of use in the garage, and then proceed to run forever. I wish there was a one-button push we could use to turn on/turn off the auto headlights, DTL, etc.

Especially when car camping, it's super annoying when you get out at night to use the "restroom" that everything in the vehicle lights up, and it takes 10+ minutes to go through all the menu options to prevent everything from turning on. AND that the headlight dial is digital, so it doesn't stay off when I turn it all the way off, but defaults to auto every time you open a door. Technology is both a blessing and a curse...

(this vindicates those that routinely (or permanently) disable their auto start stop)
With emphasis on "vindicates." I absolutely despise ASS (an absolutely perfect acronym for an ASS-inine "feature").

Wish I had been as lucky as DahliaDarlin'. Awoke to a dead battery twice just days before scheduled recall service. Am also experiencing same issues with auto/start stop. Asked if they would replace battery under warranty, was refused. Guess they'll be replacing it after all.

The only reason I knew to watch the Stop Start and then ask about the battery was because of this forum!
Bummer your Dealer is a dog.
