    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

That's about right! Lucy is 50% Rottweiler and 50% Boerboel (South African Mastiff). She is incredibly strong. Maybe a harness like this: And a Bubba Rope:

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

Next test is to drive it out there to Iowa to visit family and find some fields that aren't planted yet to drive through. Who needs this Deere when they have a BS Badlands?:

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

I had a 1985 Toyota Truck for about 25 years. It was the stripped model -- no radio or even passenger side mirror(!) -- but it was a good little truck. IIRC, the cargo capacity was 1,400+ lbs. It could carry that much easily, but I did have to be careful about weight distribution. I recall...

I'm at my Ford dealer and

The RAV4 Prime is nice, but the appearance really turns me off. Same with many other new cars: The BS is one of the few SUVs that has an attractive design, IMHO.

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

Our landscaping trailer is the only thing I've ever towed. I know the basics, like: do not exceed the GVWR of the trailer; make sure the load is balanced, both side-to-side and front-to-back, with about 10% of the load on the tongue; make sure the tires are properly inflated. We've only had...

Yep, that's basically my understanding also. I'll go out later and do some experimenting.

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

At this point I should mention that I posted my little story not as a criticism of the BS BL, but only as what I thought would be something people might find interesting. The fact that a Badlands with stock tires had trouble pulling a trailer loaded with a few hundred pounds of wood through...

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

The TC was off, but in that situation (both front tires with limited traction) I'm not sure there would be much difference. The spinning wheels in the front shifted back and forth -- LF>RF>LF>RF. In any case, since the TC was off, that didn't hurt and may have helped. The Badlands was not...

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

Our '97 RAV4 used to pull a fully loaded trailer through there (maybe not quite so wet) with no problem. It has no traction control, but does have a manually locking center diff and Torsen rear. We did not usually have to lock the center, and of course a Torsen rear is not as good as the...

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

From the OP: "I had her put it in 'Mud & Ruts' and lock the rear." So it was all locked up.

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

I like your style Meanderthal-- very diplomatic! You are absolutely right -- the trailer was loaded incorrectly -- especially if we were planning to drive anywhere. Here's my story: A) We were originally planning to load some larger logs from the base of the tree on the rear of the...

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

That makes sense. In this case, with both front tires in mud and having equally poor traction, it would not have made much difference. Ordinarily traction control (TC) is used on the front wheels to manage torque since there is an open diff. That's not the best system, but it works fairly...

12 volt battery charge state detection recall coming out.

Needless to say, service life ranges for batteries are estimates based on nationwide averages. From what I've read (going back decades) there is a bell curve, with majority of flooded lead-acid (FLA) batteries lasting 4-5 (maybe 6) years. Of course there will be exceptions. Service life is...

12 volt battery charge state detection recall coming out.

That's what I suspected -- that the batteries marketed for use in hot (or cold) climates might not perform much better than others.

    Badlands (momentarily) stuck in backyard

We've been cutting up a downed ash tree in our backyard, and loaded some of the logs into our landscaping trailer to haul them up to the wood shed. It was the first time we used the BS BL to tow the trailer, but it wasn't a full load, so we figured it would be no problem. We didn't realize how...

12 volt battery charge state detection recall coming out.

That kind of excessive heat is definitely not good for batteries. Still, 2 years seems short but better safe than sorry. IDK if there is anything to it, but some mfrs make batteries that they claim do better in hot climates. Have you tried any of them? Needless to say, there's no point in...

12 volt battery charge state detection recall coming out.

Not to be contrary, just curious -- where does the 2 year replacement come from? There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but I've always heard 4-6 years, and with a BT, our batteries have lasted 8-10 years.

12 volt battery charge state detection recall coming out.

Portable jump starters (or power stations) can be helpful, but there is a lot of junk out there. Many sad tales of people left stranded. Before buying one, it's worth checking out some reviews. Here are 2, no doubt there are more, however as with many product "reviews" the primary purpose may...

NO EXCUSES! An alternative would be one of those solar panels that can be placed on the dash.

12 volt battery charge state detection recall coming out.

I'm wondering the same thing. It would be nice to have a way to determine if the software update is necessary. I just entered our VIN at the link you posted and got the same result -- no recall.
