I would like to see a dyno sheet that shows any increases over using the stock OEM air box, then the added aftermarket CAI to verify the gains.
I am curious as well. MPG is easy to calculate, HP is another matter. Sometimes its just imagined. I would like to do Dyno test to verify real or imagined. For now I'm jappy with the gain in mpg as that was my goal.

If it's an open element, its not a cold air intake either. Even with the so called rubber seal that is supposed to adhere to the hood when closed, it does not, therefore you are drawing in warm air from the engine compartment. And if the seal was working, then how would the filter be sucking any air at all? It would be like a vacuum.

Ford (and most other OEM air filter boxes) have it right. The filter is in a box, with a tube that draws air from the front grill or fender side. I'd leave off the so called CAI's that are out there. Nice eye candy perhaps when the hood is opened, but you're tossing good money away that could be used for a functional item.
and with the 1.5L, super hot air!

For the record, I ordered my S&B CAI mainly for the purpose of additional sound. I have always put on a CAI on all of my previous vehicles and have enjoyed any additional response available (that was not the primary reason for purchase). Most installations have been accompanied with a cat-back exhaust system as well., so this is probably step one (the cheaper step compared to exhaust).

I like the setup of the S&B (vs. K&N) because it is a closed system, has a full-size view of the filter (unlike AFE that is tiny!) and the huge intake that is the full length of the radiator (Ford's intake is small). My Ford dealership even recommended S&B.

I should be able to get it and install this weekend. I'll report back with my comments.

CAI’s do absolutely nothing. In fact, they can lower your MPG’s because the engine is tuned for a specific volume of air. Unless you get a tune to accommodate the CAI (which would be worthless in the 1.5’s case) your AFR is gonna be off.

Is the K&N cold air intake really good? I just bought one for my Jeep but I'm wondering if I should order it or not? I've read reviews about best cold air intakes but don't really believe it

Nice eye candy perhaps, but your stock air cleaner is tuned for optimum performance and fuel economy engine just the way it is.

Now should you do more to the engine than just the stock tune, then perhaps you will see more. I have yet to see any documented proof from anyone here with a 1.5 or 2.0 liter engine that has gone this route.

Instead of a whole induction system, I just installed a K & N filter in my stock housing. I've heard good and bad about them but all my driving is on paved roads. I'm not sure about any power difference, but the car is running like a top. I just took a trip and averaged a little over 35MPG. This setup works for me!

What were you seeing with the stock air filter?

I don't know. I installed the K & N before I ever checked the milage.
I've had them in my other vehicles before. I like the increased intake noise, and the throttle response feels better.

I have the S&B CAI (I don't like K&N personally), it wasn't until it started to get below 110 here in TX that now I can see much improved throttle response! I also paired it with a cat-back Borla S exhaust.
I think it's worth it.
