I got the TSB done last week (bushings/pins) and the whale call is probably worse than ever. Guess maybe I need to go back and have them look closer or do the pads too.

I hate to say it, but the brake moan is still with me, louder than ever. Seems like with the return of cooler weather and rains in the PNW. It’s terrible. Been to dealer twice and no joy. Has anyone had any luck with this?

Mine has returned as well now that it’s cooler and wetter. Still not a huge deal to me but it’s still there.

Next time if you want you could have this work done:

TSB 23-2041
Moan Noise In The Rear Brakes When Vehicle Is Driven In Reverse (R) On Cold Weather And/Or High Humidity
Supersedes 22-2326

However it may be hit or miss if that TSB fix will solve the noise on your specific vehicle based on others responses:

I had the two SB done. Lining sb and pins and then they adjusted the rears again after I took it back in a second time for the moan. The Ford advisor stated that he gets calls for many vehicle types on this moan noise. They did nothing else for it. I have 61000 miles on a 21 OB. 85% are hwy miles. Now they say that the rears need to be replaced. I figured the fronts would wear out before the backs.

Are there any good Ford service departments left?

We've had this issue from the get go which started out as an intermittent problem that has grown into a full size loud whale mating song everytime I back up. After many complaints to a few different dealers to which they all responded that they didn't hear/find anything, on my last try they finally acknowledged there was a TSP and said the would order the parts and call me when they came in.

Here I am, eight months later and still no call.

Yesterday I finally got in touch with the service manager who told me that they have the parts in stock and I can bring it down in the morning to have it fixed.

I take off time from work, drive an hour one way down to the shop, waited over an hour when they came to tell me they can't fix it today because they have the old TSB parts and apparently the new TSB parts are on backorder.

I can't believe how poorly nearly every Ford Dealer has treated my concerns. When I firsts bought the car I was told even the tires were covered under my warranty, but after only 700 miles we got a strange sidewall decay on one of the tires and they wouldn't even discuss it. I looked later to find that yes indeed I was supposed to be covered for tire defect. I also mentioned the paint chipping issues around the lights to which they referred me to their warranty department which never was available.

I found what I think to be a good dealer an hour and a half away who said they can repair the reverse whale song issue but they said since I'm past my initial warranty, I'd have to pay a $200 detectable for them to fix it. He advised me to go back to the other dealer as they should still repair it under the initial warranty.

So still I'm stuck with a beautiful car that everyone looks at in dire confusion and concern when I back out of a parking space.

My 21 OB has 101,000 miles with original brake pads. I do a lot of highway miles. I was told if you use adaptive cruise control a lot, as I do, the rear brakes will need to be replaced before the front brakes.

Adaptive cruise control uses the rear brakes more to slow the vehicle down.

I'm only at 33k miles but tempted to swap out my pads early with ceramics to see what would happen (and do it myself so I can use ample grease in the pin channels). I did the TSB somewhere around 20k miles and it went from intermittent to constant and louder.

Mine does not have adaptive cruise.

We had the TSB for the rear brake noise done on our 2021 BS/BB & it still makes the noise when backing out of a parking spot for a few seconds when the truck is cold. It doesn't bother my wife so it will stay that way since we have over 37,000 miles on the BS & unless there is a recall on it I would have to pay to have it fixed. I will wait until it needs rear brake pads & see if that fixes it.

My 22 still does it on occasion. It’s not the end of the world for me. My Escape had a rusted out exhaust system for years. My neighbors think this is a marked improvement.

That's where I was at for the last 10k miles, but two things have recently happened:

1) I changed the rotors and pads on my wife's Forester and realized it's easy.
2) Now in the winter the noise is unbearably loud. Like almost hearing unsafe inside the car.

Both those points together have actually made me realize part of it is the rotor building up surface rust overnight, which is why some days it's not bad, and some days (like now in the winter) its terrible.

So I'll be swapping the pads and rotors when the time comes.

Good luck! I've been trying to get my dealership to fix this issue for a year now. Keeps saying the parts are on backorder. Last service I had, I called and scheduled. The guy said he'd order and they'd take a week to come in. I made the appointment a month out. Got there for the service guy to tell me only half the parts are in stock, the rest still on backorder. I get this same run around every time I bring in for service. I also put in the comments when making the appointment what I want fixed and they keep saying "we don't have time for that". Typical Ford. Wants your money, but when it's time to fix shit, they don't want to. Plus, I found out they sold me the extended warranty and service contract from a private company, not Ford. So, I can only use it at my local dealership, not any Ford dealership.
