Had my recall work for PCM/BCM done on June 27th by the dealership I got it at. Today July 1st my vehicle died at a stop light. Taking it the dealership right now to see what the issue is. I have been nothing but disappointed with this vehicle. Very seriously considering on trading it in.

Might be a coincidence and the issue could be the battery needs replacing. How many months do you have on the current battery?

if you really think it’s time to trade in what would you get instead?

Battery is the original that came when I bought it in 2021. I had AAA come out to tow it. Asked the guy to check the battery to see if it was dead. The battery is still good and alternator was good as well.

Got it jumped and started right up. After testing it for 15 mins it was still reading at full.

As for trade, not sure I have access to a Chevy Silverado for the time being.

When you get to the dealership ask for a “load test” and to check the battery ground connection to the fender - some owners reported the battery ground to the fender was loose. Hope they find the issue!

Hey there. I would like to take a closer look at your Bronco's loss of power issue on my end. To get things started, could you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of the Ford dealer you are working with?

Correlation does not equal causation. Second, it’s your battery. The standard battery test is useless on these you need a load test. And only replace with an AGM type battery.

After 3 years, I would' have guessed it's the battery.

Have batteries gotten worse -- shorter service life -- over the years?

Obviously there are exceptions -- like extremely hot climates, or letting the battery become significantly discharged -- but for decades a decent lead-acid starting battery was expected to last 4-5+ years. For all of the disagreements over oil types and change intervals, filters, tire pressure, etc., that was one subject there was consensus on.

I agree. Despite the software updates it is probably the battery going at 3 years. My experience with the Ford batteries has been that they go at about 3 years. Since the first battery went at 3 years on my 95 Windstar I have tried to replace the Ford batteries at 3 years on all my vehicles. If the battery is going to go I do not think the software updates will prevent it.

Trade it! We had same issue after 2 software updates! They then said the stalling out and jerking forward was the transmission! ? not when we actually watched shift dial move from reverse to park on its own. They wanted 9000 for new tranny! Before all this of course they claim bad alternator! We changed one 6 months ago due to original freezing up. They wanted 1900 for that job saying 5.5 hours labor. Me and brother in law had the alternator, a 2nd new one 832 bucks, out and back in including stretch belt in under an hour lol. Bottom line these are junk! The lady who sold wife her outerbanks, now at a different dealer, said voluntarily surrender it to finance company and stop making payments! She sold us a nice Jeep Compass Latitude, with very low miles from their preowned lot. Told Ford to stick it where sun don't shine (politely but firmly). We refuse to pay for a vehicle now on it's 3rd safety recall. These cars are unsafe junk and Ford knows It! JUNK, JUNK, JUNK!

Moral of the story: Motorcraft batteries are mediocre.

Here are some good alternatives:

Ford Bronco Sport Recall Work Failed 1719981288591-11

You're right about the change in calibration -- it won't save a battery that is on it's way out.

What it hopefully will do is help batteries last longer going forward -- if the previous battery's short service life was due, at least in part, to being undercharged.

Our BS BL does not seem to have the problem. Battery voltage is typically 12.6V or higher, an hour or more after being driven, even a relatively short distance (~12 miles r/t). Of course we're going to have the recall work done anyway, but I don't expect to see much difference. It might be the case that other Bronco Sports with a properly functioning charging system that have still had battery problems, had a defective battery.
