The shrink wrap with the meltable internal adhesive may be an option for this case. Cheers!

Had mine in today to inspect RDU noise. Vent hose on backorder could be next week or 6 months ...they have no idea. "Go ahead and drive it you'll be covered".....just WOW!
Well surprise of the day!...vent hose is here ready to go for Thursday install...fingers crossed all will be good and no perm. damage.

I had the vent hose replaced today. I assumed they changed the oil as well because according to them the noise is gone. I'll see when I get home.
This is just another reason I don't want AWD for my next car.

Had ours done today, the vent hose and fluid replacement.
prior to, sounded very 'grindy' on low speed right turns.
result, noise totally gone. runs, drives, sounds like new...so far. Couple hundred km on it.

@Major Kong see pic, looks like the top of the original OE vent hose is well above the rear tire (on the passenger side), seems pretty amazing that the RDU vent hose is pulling in liquids and in fact a Ford Tech has commented on a Fb Bronco Sport group that he doubts any of the RDU failures are due to the RDU vent hose design. Not confirmed.. just his opinion.

But perhaps liquids like rain water on the road surface could be forced up towards the top of the original OE RDU vent hose then the liquid is pulled into the RDU which seems plausible given that the redesign RDU vent hose has a 180° curve at the top pointing the vent side downward.

Does anyone have the section from the service manual on how to replace the tube or is it absolutely obvious when you go to do it? Thanks!

it does stand to reason the addition and re-positioning is water related
especially the 180 degree invert of the vent itself
does the force of water get pushed behind the skirting
tire treads may just carry enough water to find any accepting crevice
note the original position
right at the crease point of the wheel well
in roofing terms the "valley"
even more of a collection point
it would be of interest to hear just what was the catalyst for the modification

Good point, that is a potential collection point for the original OE RDU vent hose

motorcraft diff fluid?
no dice, nada
close enough to dealership
lucky me
parts counter slow day no line
pick up qt of diff fluid
inquire about friction modifier
older seasoned counter jockey says "don't"
"stick to lubrication chart"
thanks for the tip Bub
just passing on the ford counter intel

perfect weather day for driveway work
out with the old
in with the new
stats: 1.5L base model just over 2K miles on odometer
results:
  • tarp with rubber mat in driveway plenty of clearance
  • start to finish including cleanup under 30 minutes
  • plug access no trouble easy removal/reinstall
  • magnetic plug had 1/4" mound of what looked like moly grease (?)
  • fluid coloration light brown to brown unlike new fluid light gold color
  • slightly more material went in than came out
  • tapered plug (no gasket) would recommend using teflon tape
was surprised to see the discoloration at so few miles
glad to have pre-emptively performed work at this time

The color of used lubricants is a poor measure of serviceability. Lubricants are EXPECTED to discolor as they do their jobs. The only way to accurately measure lubricant serviceability is to send it off for laboratory analysis.

one would expect this discoloration to occur
but at only 2K miles I was somewhat surprised
unlike crankcase blowby it's just gear meshing
spent some time viewing online vids of differential oil changes
some gear manufactures recommending first 500 mile change
another factor they bring up is temperature related oil life
proximity to exhaust makes me wonder if the oil has premature degradation
here again, discoloration due to heat related degradation (?)
the potential exists
side note to previous video post
no sight glass as far as I can tell on the base model 1.5L
considering windshield cracked glass
under carriage glass seems like a real bonehead move on someones part
