Yes, most 4WD systems are intolerant of different sized wheels. My comment was as regards the Bronco Sport. The Owner's Manual for the Bronco Sport has an entire section on using a different sized spare wheel, so I believe its drive system is designed to be tolerant of this scenario. Which is a good thing, because Ford has installed different sized "full-size" spare tires in all the Badlands that came with the optional 235 width tires. Granted, there's not a lot of difference in diameter between a 225/65R17 and a 235/65R17, but they are different diameter.
I have read here (but not looked specifically myself) that the Owner's Manual does say something about replacing the different sized wheel/tire as soon as possible. I don't think that running with a different diameter wheel/tire for an extended period is not recommended. Again, I haven't looked myself at the Owner's Manual and I don't have it handy right now. I guess I could use the app to look it up but I feel like I miss too many things when I go to the app for this sort of thing.

Yes, it's meant to be temporary. Here's what the manual says.

When you say "zero" do you mean zero or by "zero" do you mean not enough to take what they are offering? I'm honestly asking because you put it in quotes. Different DT shops will offer different amounts. I was offered $20/tire for my OEM tires and others have posted different amounts they were offered on trade. I just sold them on Craigslist.

Regardless of a 17" or 18" size, its a whole lot better than having a donut in there. It's not deceptive and you didn't pay extra for it, they included it with the tow package.
Ha - I would do two Ha's but that would be impolite. a zero in quotation marks is a statement that they offered nothing. They said they wouldn't take it - period.
AND - if you think you don't pay for the spare when you get the towing package, ummm, never mind. Well - I'll say this. I could have bought the trailer hitch from multiple brand recognized companies for less than half of what the hitch and "full sized" spare cost from Ford. The spare was "NOT" free.

Even if you can buy the full size spare - DON'T. It's another Ford deceptive practice. I got the full siize spare because I got the towing package, and it's on a steel wheel that isn't even the same wheel, same wheel size, or tire size.
You probably couldn't give it away.
Ditto. In my 2023 it isn't even the same brand of tire. My 21 OBX had the cast wheel and the same Michelin tire.

Cost cutting by Ford. I went with a new matching Michelin tire (with Ford points) and used great condition OBX wheel from Ebay.
If you go full size spare, you will need this item. It's longer to fit a full size spare lock down.

After checking the full-size spare, seeing that they put a Pirelli tire in as the full size spare instead of a Falken Wildpeak as equipped in the car is disappointing.

When you have a fix-a-flat - arguably a bad decision, but whatever for weight/cost. When you do a donut spare - yes, obviously it has to have a different size and tire. But when you're putting a full sized spare in the back of a car, there's zero reason to not put the upgraded factory tire on other than trying to pinch pennies.

The overall diameter is the same or at least close enough where there is no issue. The difference in wheel size is made up with sidewall. The point of a full size spare is to get you off the side of the road or back home to get your original replaced or plugged. The trailer package has a full-size spare because a donut isn't rated for towing. A steel wheel is the norm for a spare on majority of vehicles. It's not a deceptive practice, it's just the most logical thing to do from Fords standpoint because each trim has the same size spare if it has the tow package. The big bends have a spare that is the same size because they have a factory 17" alloy wheel whereas the OB's have an 18" wheel.
The mismatched undersized (not truly full-sized at 215/60R17) spare tire that Ford fraudulently provides will give an AWD error. Good luck if you are somewhere that requires AWD to get out. I discovered this recently and went to the dealer to complain and
they have ordered me a truly full-sized replacement. Thumbs up for the dealer, thumbs down to Ford.

So I will chime in. I have searched this ad nauseam. There is so much info out there and half of it is wrong. The problem? Which half is wrong and which right? I didn’t get a spare with my purchase. My fault. I thought it was there and it was not. I want a spare mostly for when I travel, especially in rural mountains. It does not bother me when I am in town as I live in a bigger city with plenty of resources and would not feel stranded. I have 245 65 R17’s. A full size will not fit in the back. However, the stock 225 65 R17 will. My tires are 29.5” tall the stock ones are 28.5” tall. 1 inch difference. If the Bronco Sport was not AWD, I would have ready bought the stock size for a spare. I fear damaging the AWD. Is this truly a big risk of damage to the awd in using a spare this much shorter? Or is is safe based on the fact that I would make sure my next stop is a place that sells tires? Be gentle, but be truthful.

In that case I'm guessing you grew up when 99% of vehicles on the road had steel wheels in which case the BS spare would fit the bill. If they were styled, it was a snap-on hub cap which is likely why they were all matched. if Ford only offered one wheel style on a product line they'd probably still match the spare to the car. I'm failing to follow what the issue is. If you wanted a matching spare, you should have bought a different vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler with the spare on the rear door. Ford doesn't hide it so I'm lost as to how it's a deceptive practice on their end. It takes 5 minutes to swap a wheel back to the factory one once it is fixed and you're back to matching. Getting a flat has never been convenient, regardless of what era one grew up in.
This may have been over 3 years ago, but it's still true.

A 245/65r17 will fit in the well IF it’s aired down and all the felt padding has been removed, I know as I have one in my BS (to be honest a ‘21 BSBL, but I don’t think the well has changed). I carry a pump so I can air up if I need the spare.
I think the smaller spare would work in an emergency (on road) as I think the AWD system will disable itself if the mis-match is too great for the time it’s in use, and re-enable when sizes match again.

My 2022 Badlands came with a “full size” spare that was not the same size as the optional tires I had ordered with the vehicle. Obviously, Ford feels it is not an issue if the tires are not exactly the same size for temporary usage. I did choose to buy a used Badlands rim and the same Falken 235/65-17 tire so as not to worry if out wheeling.

Ford does state in the manual that disimilar size tires are for temporary use only and give all kinds of warnings and caveats.
