It is a really simple procedure that only takes a minute or two each side with the proper tool. They say you don't have to trim them. It is extremely close when the suspension is hanging or fully extended. I have the hrg kit arriving in a couple days and will have it installed before next weekend.

Has anyone installed the 4 Wheel Parts lift kit by hand (not installed at a shop)? It's only a 1 inch level lift compared to 1.5 inch like most of them, but it seems much simpler. And it may not require grinding of the strut flange.

I don't see anything listed on 4 wheel parts for the Bronco Sport? Do you have a link as I am curious on their kit to compare to my HRG Engineering lift

I'd like to know if grinding down the strut would be a problem if I ever removed the lift

My kit arrived but is being held hostage by the post office. When I get my hands on it I will be installing and Ill take some pics and start a thread on this. To answer your question, no unless you trim the strut wrong and its not worn out you could reinstall it without the lift.

No you only grind down less than a 1/4 inch. It’s not that hard. I installed my kit myself (hrg) and not mechanical inclined at all. Rides great. I had 4wp install a readylift which was complete garbage.

After watching a video where they show the grinding and then later show the reason for the grinding, I am left wondering if you could just bend the flange on the strut a little to gain the clearance instead of grinding it off.

Either way, I think you should follow that modification process with some primer/paint to keep the rust away.

It seems like no one has installed the Rough Country lift kit. Anyone know anything or have any experience with it?

Probably would work also , but think it’s easier just to grind it down, or use a hand file.

They all install the same in front. The strut comes out and spacer is bolted on top. The hrg lift comes with new sway bar links, as other lifts use a bracket to drop them. Hrg also use a spacer for the brake line( so there is no tension on it). The rear is a little different on the hrg also the spacer sits on top of spring. Instead of the bottom of the spring.

I'd be more concerned about doing damage by wailing on the strut with a hammer to bend the little lip back than I would simply grinding it down.

A handful of people installed the RC lift in the early days because it was the first to market (or maybe 2nd). Most of the people that reported installing the kit had problems. The main one being a clunking noise resulting from interference between the top of the strut and the spacer. The HRG lift provides relief in that area and consequently doesn't have the clunking problem. I can't speak for any of the other kits.

This is correct, it was not just rc lifts it was also ready lift and a few others. I had this exact problem with ready lift. The pictures show the issue the green spacer (hrg) has cut out for top of strut(strut hat) the black one readylift does not. This is what causes the clanking, the strut hat has no flex because it is compressed to the spacer
