im debating on getting at least the K&N intake for the induction noise. i miss the turbo flutter on the 1.5l (only thing i miss) and watch the MPG go down.
My jury is still out on open element CAIs. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me pulling hot under hood air, then running it through the intercooler. The afe unit at least incorporates the factory ram air pulled from Infront of the grill and utilizes a high-flow washable air filter. Once that filter needs to be cleaned however, I'll spec out a (larger) K&N unit to replace it

No it doesn't, I'd be doing it for noise.
the S&B would probably be the best. I haven't seen an afe one yet. I was looking today and both K&N and S&B won't ship to California. So I'll have to find a way around that.

I personally went with the S&B because if you were going to get any increases or do anything more involved later, it seems to be the best starting point. The S&B replaces the ram aim with a bigger grill wide ram air, changes to a ā€œtraditionalā€ conal filter but keeps it in a protected and accessible box and replaces all of the tubing all the way to the turbo inlet. With that said, it’s a like assembling a ship-in-a-bottle trying to get everything to fit and I personally was challenged with working on the turbo side (cramped space, very low behind the engine, tore up both arms working back there) but between the increased intake noise and the Blow-off valve I installed, it makes me smile. (Pic shows the OE ram air compared to the full length S&B ram air)

With that said, I was hoping to eventually do a down pipe and cat back exhaust but FastMavericks seems to have removed their whole store front after talking to some members here about seeing if their Maverick stuff would fit on the BS. Super bummed about that

I purchased AFE CAI and upgraded my exhaust system at the same time. I upgraded the CAI with the Pro5R Filter and put the AFE Pre-Filter Screen on top of that. Cleaning the filter is a breeze, I soak it in hot soapy water for 30 minutes, hot rinse and then let it dry in the sun for a couple of days. Before I reinstall I lightly spray the 5R with the gold filter oil and let it sit for another day. I use the lower spec filter that came with the CAI inbetween filter cleanings. The installation took roughly 30 minutes and connects with the OEM air intake duct. There are other good CAI kits but I liked the look of the AFE set-up and the direct connection with outside air. IMO it was money well spent, my exhaust sounds awesome and the CAI opened up the airflow. I also gained about 30% better fuel economy which was the biggest surprise.

Has there been any objective dyno testing of any of these mods?

I ask because generally speaking, most intake and exhaust mods produce little in the way of hp gains, and any increase is on the top end, close to redline.

That's awesome that they fit as well in the BS as they do in the Mav.
