If I owned a 1.5L with an OEM water pump I would check coolant level at least weekly. Any loss of coolant to below the minimum line within a month would mean a trip to the shop. I would want that to be logged in the car's service history for warranty purposes should the pump fail after the 60K warranty. I think you could make a good argument that the pump was faulty from the factory even though you would be out of the warranty period.

With all the "hard to get" parts that members have reported here as of late, a person can go broke ordering and stocking there own personal stash of parts, should one fail.

I gotta say, with all the forums I've been a member of based on various vehicles I've owned, this BS forum is the first where folks have bought engine covers, hood insulators, under dash covers, rear window defrost wire cap protectors, and now water pumps in fear of a future potential failure, or because Ford left them out and think they are needed.
I wanted all that stuff.
Update. It was a faulty water pump causing coolant level to be low. @Ford Motor Company is there no recall on this? Seems like a common issue...also is there no low coolant sensor? I noticed it, but what if the coolant continued to leak, shouldn't it have a sensor to notify user
What's your build date?

First '23 I've heard of leaking. Wonder if it was the new or old pump? Build date suggests a few old pumps could have slipped through the cracks.

I wonder if yours got an old pump by accident? The new one should be the updated pump.

I'll ask em if they can pull the part # off the water pump. We have put close to 10K miles on it in 6 months but its all highway driving, nothing that should've been causing coolant leak. We also had the electronic shifter replaced due to the "Powertrain Malfunction" error message a few months ago

That would be cool! Thanks!

Sorry you're having all those issues

My BB was purchased in March 22’-and is a 22’ Model year. I have about 34k on it with no major issue. I did discover coolant a bit low back around 16/17k. I pulled the cap and found that it was extremely tight where the pressure relief on the coolant system supposedly is. I am over 15k miles from when I noticed/serviced/and checked this. It has not lost a drop since, and it is solely my opinion that a majority of earlier Sports my have a faulty pressure relief in the cap. I worked it around, and checked to see that the breakaway on it was nice and loose-maybe this might help some 1.5 owners out there from having premature water pump or cooling system failures in general. Good luck with it either way.

I'm guilty of doing this too, but it's been on my 1967 Camaro. Every once in awhile, a fellow 1st gen Camaro owner will sell off his/her collection of used parts they have. If the price is right, I buy them, then monitor the want ad section of these Camaro forums and offer up a part I might have for cheap, just to keep these old Camaros running and on the streets.

UPDATE from 05/03/23. Boy am I feeling vindicated. Replaced the water pump under warranty on my 2023 Bronco Sport Big Bend 1.5l 3 cylinder engine today. Build Date 12/??/22, purchased 03/23/23.

Because of all the forum posts about defective water pumps I had ordered a spare water pump and gasket set from fordoempartsonline, back in early May, 2023.
URL is https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-pump-assembly-water-hx7z8501b.

Back on September 25th I had taken the BS-BB to my selling dealer's Quick Lane for an oil change, I had noticed the coolant reservoir was almost empty. Asked them to look at that also. Apparently they could not duplicate the problem, but did top off the coolant reservoir. Fast forward to last Friday, Dec 8th. Again found the coolant reservoir almost empty. Looked around the water pump area and could see coolant on various surfaces. Took several photos. Saturday Morning 12/09 drove to my selling dealer. Explained the issue. He claimed they couldn't install owner supplied parts due to liability issues. I told him it was a Ford part I had purchased from a Ford website. I also told him I was aware that there was a issue with the water pumps on the Bronco Sport 1.5l engines. I told him that was why I had purchased a spare. So as not to be out of service waiting for a part. He looked at the water pump area and thought it might be a loose hose. The earliest appointment he had was 01/04/24 @ 0730 (24 days later). I asked him if I could take it to any Ford dealer. He said yes and referred me to Beach Ford in Va. Beach. I told him if I got an earlier appoint I would call and cancel the one for 01/04/24.

Drove over to be Beach Ford, spoke with the Service Director. Explained the problem and showed him my replacement water pump. He called his Part Department and confirmed the water pump was on back order, with an expected delivery date of 12/21. He set up a 0730 am appointment for me for today Monday 12/11, even had them come and get the BS. Long story short. Bad water pump, they installed my replacement, bought the BS back to me. They have ordered a replacement water pump and will email when it comes in, and I will go pick it up. So instead of being out of service for 10 days, it was out of service for one. WHEW!!!
Canceled the service appointment for 01/04/24 with selling dealer.

Now the rest of the story. The water pump that started leaking and was replaced was the same Part Number as the new replacement water pump. Supposedly an upgraded water pump.
Old Water Pump HX7G-8501-BA 23822 8221
New Water Pump HX7G-8501-BA 05223 3921

So even the new upgraded water pumps can be prone to leaking. Time will tell.

Michael
Purchased 03/23/23, already have 26,385 mostly highway miles on it.
