Update Two, 2nd water pump replaced for leaking. 02/26/25, 54,775 miles. 2023 Big Bend with 1.5l engine.
First pump was replaced 12/11/23 @ 26,385 miles under warranty by another dealer, when my selling dealer’s service department was backed up 24 days out.
Fast forward: Several times in the last month or two, while driving I have had a strong smell of coolant occur. 02/17/25 while getting an oil change the coolant reservoir was found to be almost empty. Selling dealer topped it off, but apparently made no effort to look for a leak.
02/25/25 after only 8 days and 325 miles driven the level of coolant is back down to the MIN level. Took it back to the dealer who changed out the first water pump. They confirmed the replaced water pump is leaking. They have the parts on hand and will use the updated Coolant System flush procedure this time. The updated Coolant System flush Bulletin was not released until after the water pump was changed the first time. So they had not flushed the cooling system the first time. Still covered by the 60K/5 year Power Train Warranty.
Still have an unsealed, new Ford water pump and gasket in the back for the next time. Should be ready tomorrow.
