I was having all kinds of problems with the sync on my wife's '20 Ecosport. Black screen etc. I had the dealer look at it last year. He replaced the APIM. That lasted 1 month. I finally got fed up and took it to a different dealer (where I bought my OBX). He had the car 1 day, Installed the newest version of sync (3.4 23188). Problem solved. I had the newest sync version, but my maps were outdated (NA2 20). I bought the latest USB from Ford. It cost me $150.00. It also took 2 3/4 hours to upload. I now have NA2 23 version of maps.
On my '23 OBX , I uploaded Sync version 3.4 23188 myself. It came with NA2 22 for maps. Ford offered me a free upgrade, but I bought the USB for $40.00, and installed it myself. Now I'm up to date (NA 2 23) in both my vehicles.

I bought the Nav USB too. Simple to install with no aggravation.

I believe your only way forward is discussed in Post #38. Happened to me as well with a brand new VIN.
So here it is, almost 1 full month later and I finally got a positive reply from Ford Vehicle Technology Center via email.
They will send me the Nav 2 23 map update on USB thumb drive, gratis.

Your experience is exactly mine for my ā€˜22 for the 1st NAV update.

except they ended up sending 3 USB Devices as I was debugging the issues

Just got the OTA for the NA 2 23 maps. Are there any terrain changes or maps with this new update? I wish Ford could be transparent with what these new updates are.

I checked mine today and it already had the 2.23 map update. So I decided to check for automatic system updates and found a rather large one. You have to turn Wi-Fi on and park close to home or nearby hot spot. The update required about 45 minutes to download and install and you have to leave the car running while it updates. Anyone know what it does?

As far as I know, Ford does not publish any info on what specifically its SYNC updates are for. My assumption is minor number increments (everything behind the second decimal place) are for bug fixes. Updates that increment the first decimal point add or change system features. For example, the current build is 3.4.23188. If there's another update beyond build 23188 will be for bug fixes. Going from 3.3 to 3.4 involved changes to the interface--I believe it changed some of the icons. Either way, Ford doesn't publish a change log.

Don’t know what that file does but Cyanlabs states it’s a Map NA (North America) update however you already had 2 23 (installed (possibly all the map files didn’t load whenever you did the Map NA 2 23) update)

I agree with all the earlier posts that say the update was stated at one free per year. I have done one update since I bought the car in 5/2021 and that update was free. I think it was in January of 2023. I also can't get the latest update for free.

Either they changed the policy or things on the backend are all scrambled. It's not worth $149 to update that map and also not really worth my time to make Ford straighten it out. I spent hours (literally several hours of time) on the phone in February getting Sirius to straighten out the last Nav issues.

Mine is still on Sync 3.4.22251 so maybe or maybe not the issue. @Dude I haven't tried the 23188 update again after donking that APIM memory issue that I was having. It wouldn't apply 23188 before. I have the automatic update off and no plans to turn that back on. Think it's worth another attempt? I also have a ForScan cable for the future but I haven't mucked with it yet. Waiting until CyanLabs is the only option.

Build 222251 is creating all kinds of issues. I would update ASAP. After downloading, the update to the vehicle takes 10 minutes.

The no charge map updates are for 3 years. If you have a 2021 model year, you are past the 3 year mark.

This is a map file that was included in NA 2 23.

North America maps include US, Canada and Mexico. NA 2 23 was released earlier than past years. Perhaps this is an update to the maps for Mexico.

22251 has the out of memory issue so 22251 is known for causing all kinds of issues, if you are having issues it is recommended to upgrade to 23188.

Some do have issues upgrading from 22251 to 23188 so if your USB upgrade fails again, @thomasm23 posted his instructions which involved a few ā€œ2 minute Sync resetsā€ but I wasn’t able to quickly find his steps for the upgrade. I had to do something similar. Will try to find those steps. Try to avoid doing a Master Reset during the upgrade as that has locked up some owners screens.

And when you are on 23188 you’ll be all set for the next upgrade which maybe we will see another version soon IDK.

I was having issues after I updated my Escape to 22251. Better with 23188.

I updated my wife's BL to 24188 from 22200.

Recently did my NAV to 2 23.
