What about if you’re in California where you no longer can buy a service plan from a dealer out of state (so Granger isn’t an option)? I was about to get an extended warranty but since I can’t get it through Granger, I’m assuming it’s most definitely not a worthwhile deal, right?

It would depend solely on the terms of the dealer that offered to sell the warranty to you. If you could find a dealer willing to sell to you for the price Granger would then it'd be worth it (just pick a different state on the dropdown list to get a quote, then see if any CA dealer will compete... doubtful, but possible).

Enterprising minds on the maverick forums suggested using a service that provides a virtual mailing address in a different state to purchase the warranty, then deal with it later as a "oh I moved to California now". However, I couldn't endorse that without knowing if there's any possibility that Ford could invalidate the warranty terms for lack of proof of original address. The risk is slim, but present.

I'd love a 2 door OBX but not for $60K+ the way I want it
By the time I'm in the market for one, there will be used ones. That is more up my ally.

Guess (hope) I was lucky — got warranty from Granger prior to this CA nonsense showing up (got it in ’21). Warranty shows as valid on FordPass app.
I’ll deal with any problems when/if they arise since the only other thing out there I like right now is the Rover Defender, and it’s priced above my pay grade — also probably no less problems since it’s “English”. :bandit:

With all this worry about something happening to a BS, I may simply trade it in about a month prior to the 36 Month, 36K mile factory warranty.
Years ago, I had a Pontiac dealer promise to honor a buying service price. I went to the dealership, completed all of the paperwork, and was ready to sign when the salesman (owner's son) told me I MUST purchase the extended warranty. I said no thank you. He said (essentially) that the car was a POS and he could not 'in good conscience' let me buy it without the additional warranty. I said that if it was really that bad, maybe I shouldn't buy it. He wouldn't sell it without the warranty so I left. I was amazed that he actually let me walk, but apparently they were planning to make their money back on the ridiculously overpriced extended warranty.

I went down the road to another dealer who sold it for the buying service price.

Same as here in Florida. Just use any address from a family member or friend in another state.

Ask your dealer if they'll match the online price. The three to check are Flood, Zeigler, and Granger. Granger is usually $50 less expensive. My dealer just said to tell them the price, and they put it in for both our orders.

I live in SoCal. No issues buying a Ford Premium Care warranty from Granger in January when I bought my 2021 BL used.

I also bought out of state on a couple of my previous used Escapes. I think it was Flood Ford, maybe Michigan or Ohio, can't remember.

Dealers won't match the price. There's sales tax involved except for a few states. Also doing the paperwork for $50 isn't worth it to a dealer. Worth it for Granger because they do a lot of warranty deals.

Dealers won't match the price.

My dealer did. Twice. And they put it on a credit card separate from vehicle purchase so I get cash back.

Do you pay sales tax in your state? Did you pay $50-$100 over dealer's cost? If yes to both, your dealer made $0 on your deals. Even lost money. Any warranty profit was in your deals..

... Do you ... Did you?
They started to give the extended warranty spiel. I let him go a bit, and mentioned we had Ford ESP on my '14 from an online dealer. Showed him the current printout with the number from an online purchase through a Ford dealer for the years and miles we wanted. He matched it. Probably Flood, which was $50 above Granger.

Second time, just showed him the number and he entered it.

So glad the brochure says a cassette deck is covered. It's been removed from online list after I joked about it to my dealer and said they may want to tell Ford. :)

I’m guessing you got it just before the laws changed. Go to Flood or Granger’s site now and try to enter info for a quote using California as your state — on Flood, it shows a message saying you can’t and on Granger, California isn’t even an option in the state drop-down.

I’d gotten a quote from Granger before, so the law must have changed sometime this year.
