He had quite a bit of lead at first - quick decisions, not turning off sooner and or taking a off road niche and hide.... timing is everything. BUT the Bronco Sport 1.5 sure can haul a$$.
But more than anything - Glad no on was hurt.
The police were really good catching that jerk. That PIT move was executed perfectly.

Did they catch him? It wasn't clear to me that they did. Someone like that should be doing serious jail time. Driving against oncoming traffic is a good way to kill a bunch of folks, especially at those speeds. I'm always a little surprised at the jump when I tromp on the gas. I don't do it often, but when I do the 2.0 makes the Sport jump.

That cop crossed that fence like an old man (like me). Not at all like they show on TV.

I'm surprised the police let this chase go this far. Many departments have adopted a "no chase" policy to prevent unnecessary injuries and deaths to the those who have the misfortune to be in the path of these high speed pursuits.
Exactly, Slingy. Quote:

"Nationally, the U.S. Department of Transportation estimates that about 250,000 high-speed police chases occur each year. Of all incidents, between 6,000 and 8,000 end in collisions. Approximately 500 people are killed in these crashes and more than 5,000 suffer minor or serious injuries." Jun 21, 2023.

"Deadly police pursuits underreported due to lack of mandatory reporting."

Most of those deaths are completely unnecessary.

The only time high speed pursuit may be justified is when allowing the driver to escape will result in death(s). For example, the driver is on his way to shoot up a school or other building full of people. Or the driver is a known terrorist who is intent on blowing something up.

The most common causes of pursuits do not fit that description. They are typically due to a driver fleeing because the car is stolen and/or they have drugs and/or their license is suspended/revoked, or they are getting pulled over for a routine traffic violation and freak out for no good reason.

It's not worth risking severe injury or death of an innocent person/people; police officers; or the 'perp' for those types of violations.

Your story sounds like mine (sort of).

I also retired after 27 years -- at D.C. Metrorail. Like you, I didn't really want that job. I told myself I'd only be there for maybe 2 years. Then 2 turned into 5, I started getting more vacation time, the pay and benefits were good, so despite the many negative aspects, I stayed long enough to get full retirement (pension and health insurance).
