I can't see how a beep is annoying when it comes on only with the blinker on. If you are that good of a driver, you will never hear it. With some other drivers, it can save an accident. Maybe someone that comes in your lane.
My point exactly - thank you!

I don’t think it makes the vehicle less safe because there is no audio chirp. It has the light, that’s plenty. People rely on too many “safety features” these days while driving. If someone is overtaking you at such a rate of speed that you didn’t see them when you checked before switching lanes and the light wasn’t on when you started changing lanes the audio clue isn’t going to help. Plus their horn will get your attention.
Totally agree with you. I know this is a controversial subject but too many people solely rely on these "safety" features. Especially older one's. You should know how to drive without the car telling you what you can and can't do.

But useful to many drivers old or new or just bad drivers. The sound comes on ONLY when the blinker is on. You won't hear the sound if you are a good driver. What's the big deal then in having the warning sound which may save a driver coming into your lane?

As long as I could disable the beep, I'd be alright with it for drivers that need to be alerted to every situation or distraction.

Try putting down the $#@&! cell phone first.

Bucko, you only get the alert if you screw up. You put your blinker on when the light warning is on which also aids you from not getting into the lane with a vehicle there. A good driver should rarely if ever hear that chime.

So why would a “good driver” not go ahead and turn on the turn signal even though the bliss light is on? The point of a turn signal is to let other drivers know you’re turning or changing lanes. I would still turn on the turn signal to let that driver who is in my blind spot know that I want to change lanes and encourage them to go ahead and pass me. I also find it odd that there is no way to turn on a chime in the situation the OP started the discussion with. My other vehicles with BLIS have had the chime and allowed me to disable it if I wanted.

My friend had, I think it was a Honda Accord and when you turned on the turn signal it would actually light up on the screen and show a camera that was in your side mirrors to show you your blind spot and so while having an icon light up on the side mirrors is better than nothing I loved the idea of the camera in the side mirror showing you the blind spot so you could see it on the screen. Of course we don't have 360 camera systems so they couldn't implement that which is one of my few gripes with the bronco sport, we should have had 360 camera system as an option

Some Hyundai models have that camera.

To be fair, you’re supposed to check the side mirror before signaling a lane change. The BLIS illuminates if a vehicle is in the way no matter how the mirror is adjusted. So if you look in the mirror and see no car but the BLIS is illuminated, you know one is there before you signal. An aural alert when you signal with a vehicle in your blind spot might help those who don’t regularly use their side mirrors, but if you properly execute a lane change you should see the BLIS indicator before hitting the turn signal.
Yeah, that's fair. But if people could learn to turn their head and check, the point of a BLIS is lost and it's just extra garbage built into the car.

Some of us signal first. I'm not that concerned about the lost bulb life from using extra blinks. I like to signal intent first, then check for execution. That gives the other person more time to evaluate me vs. their situation. An immediate audio warning lets me change action sooner. I understand in many parts of the country (e.g. Virginia) driving like this is an invitation for the other driver to speed up and block your maneuver.

I have a suspicion that Ford doesn't have the audio cue because the Ford system is triggered even when you are driving in a double turn lane, and traffic is turning with you. The indicator fast blinks while you're turning. Other vehicles use some sort of logic to choose between a lane change and a turn which Ford seems to not bother. That's my best guess anyway. Several times I've said to myself "why doesn't the Bronco beep?". I've never once said "I wish this Hyundai would quit beeping", because it doesn't beep when it's not a sure danger.

I view this system as a driver aid in the circumstance its name implies: i.e blind spot information. Ford clearly intended this system to alert you the lane next to you is not clear when you might not be able to see a vehicle in your blind spot(s), not to remind you to check the lane is clear before executing a lane change. Wishing it were something else is fruitless, as is accusing Ford of sacrificing customer safety for profit. It is what it is.

Besides, most of the places I drive you don't need an audible BLIS warning, you'll get one from the car occupying the lane you are changing into. :cwl:

This is my first car with a warning for the blind spot and I like it, so no complains. I do agree that a
"beep" is not necessary if you use your mirrors correctly. BUT in the first month I almost crashed twice changing lanes (check mirror, turn signal, check mirror and turn) because a car in the blind spot, wasn't used to that warning light so didn't even pay attention at it, I would definitely notice a warning sound.

Folks should just use the vehicle for what it is designed for...driving. Put away any distractions (driver), and drive.

But that would be expecting too much, so therefore as a society, we expect others to design and inform us when we do wrong, or become a safety hazard.
