I was excited when I was finally when I got to drive my 21 BS off the lot as my own vehicle but after only a few hours and less that 60 miles later I had several concerning warning flash up on my cluster mid-drive. So now im left with a non-functional AWD and almost all of the drive assist features on my Outer Banks unusable.

For context I when I purchased the vehicle from my local ford dealer it already had 44k on the odometer and had test driven just fine. They were able to get me a solid price and the vehicle fit the needs for me and my wife so it seemed like a no-brainer, now I'm feeling some serious doubt when hearing the dealer tell me it will be at least 5 days to get looked at and if it turns out to be related to the powertrain I might not have the vehicle back for 1-2 months.

What currently flashes up on the dash are warnings about 4WD being turned off and that serivce requires, pre-collision assist disabled, hill start assist disabled and advancedtrac service required. I've not been able to find much about an issue like this online so I was wondering if anyone had experienced something similar and what ended up being the problem. For those interested I'll be updating this thread as I hear back from the dealer.

Update#1
Dealer says they will try to get it looked at as soon as possible but have no concrete time table they can give me on getting it seen and the same goes for any kind of loaner vehicle.

Update#2
They were able to determine that a control module in the rear axle that is responsible for the AWD has failed and will need to be replaced. They say once ordered it will take 2-3 days to arrive and about 9 hours of labor to complete the repair. Unfortunately still no loaner is available so it looks like I'll need to get my own rental in the meantime.

Does your car include adaptive cruise control?

Hopefully you purchased an extended warranty. Sorry to hear, but you take a chance on used vehicles.
Especially when a vehicle has plenty of known issues. He should be still under warranty.

The systems you are seeing alerts for require wheel speed sensors. The 4WD, Advanctrac, and Hill Start Assist monitor wheel speed via sensors for various drive modes and safety features (mostly having to do with traction control). If one of your wheel speed sensors is bad/malfunctioning it could result in deactivation of these systems.

The only fly in the ointment of my theory is no ABS (antilock braking system) errors. My assumption is the wheel speed sensors used for the various systems are the same as those used for ABS, although I don't know this for a fact. Since you are not seeing any ABS faults those sensors are most likely working fine.

EDIT: To piggyback on @Meanderthal's post (see below), several forum members have experienced strange behaviors (i.e. many seemingly unrelated warning indicators) that were resolved with a new battery. If you have a battery charger you might put it on overnight and see if that resolves your issue. If it does, then a new battery is in order.

I really hope that you're right, it would be a huge relief. Fingers crossed its something simple an easy.

The starting point for all these types of issues should always be the battery. It seems that when multiple systems have a failure all of a sudden, more than half of the time the battery is the culprit. It could be a low charge or just a weak battery. Given higher mileage and this vehicle sitting on the lot for some period of time, I would definitely start by load testing the battery or simply charging the battery.

Hi there! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your concerns on my end.

My 2021 BS is currently sitting a week at the dealership awaiting being looked at for an issue with the rear differential. They estimate 1-2 months until the issue is fixed. Thankfully, they gave me a 2023 Explorer as a loaner (what a gas guzzler).

As a legacy Bronco II owner, I was really excited to get the BS. The experience in only 18,000 miles has been soured by quality issues and recalls. My excitement has now turned to getting rid of it as soon as I get it back from the shop.

Ask for a complete service history on the vehicle. There should be no issue providing that for you.

Yes, I agree with Mark S.
Here is video on swapping out a Ranger battery- the guy explains all the electrical problems he is having before installing a new battery. AJ's complaints sounded very further.
I learned ago time ago before all this fancy shmancy stuff- to install new battery if the used car I was buying had the original factory battery or some old 2-3 year old battery.
(Hey...did I just do the old man thing, "Back in my day...")

This is the unfortunate reality with the new vehicles today. Doesn’t matter if you bought it used or new. So much if it is interconnected and not easily diagnosed. That in its self wouldn’t the end of the world but with fewer tech’s in the workforce, fewer parts in the parts bins, and fewer loaners to hand out, having any issue of this kind is just crappy. Hope it all works out and it’s just a bad battery.
