Hi all. Installed breaking hood deflector as instructed. After 3 months, tape detached from the plastic deflector, causing the deflector to come loose. Spent weekend removing sticky residue from hood. Contacted Ford Accessories and they couldn’t replace. Kind of dissatisfied considering the defect was the part and not my install. Now I have to jump through hoops with dealer to get this replaced? That’ll take a lot of my time for a $100 part.

Ford accessories warranty issues are handled by the dealer. That's just the way they do it. It's inconvenient, but at least it should be resolved under the warranty. This should be a quick thing. Go to the dealer with your original receipt, let them see the adhesive let go, and they should be able to replace it. Or, if the deflector is still fine, just go to Autozone or O'Reilly and buy some 3M exterior double sided trim tape for $10 and reinstall the deflector. If the Ford supplied tape gave up that easily, I wouldn't want to use that tape again.

i would also just re do it with some 3M tape.
More than likely it was 3M tape to begin with. The issue is the application of it. PSA requires time, temperature , and pressure to properly adhere. Typically suppliers will elevate the substrate temperature which allows them apply lower pressure or normal pressure for less time. Sounds like when they applied the tape to the deflector, they were not following best practices. Most likely trying to reduce the assembly time.

it does not say 3M on the tape backing but it is a red backing so it most likely is 3M. My point was not to waste time with warranty on something like this and just fix it.

Do you happen to have a ceramic coating on your sport? I was actually looking into getting the Aeroskin II hood deflector for mine…but just got ceramic coating applied a few weeks ago and was concerned whether it would even adhere well to the hood surface.

That coating would need to be removed at the locations that the tape is expected to stick to. The instructions that came with mine clearly pointed out the the surface required cleaning with the alcohol wipes that were provided.

It looks like the tape is comping off the deflector, not the hood. I’d say it was more of an issue how the tape was applied to the deflector, not their application of the deflector to the Bronco.

Can't really tell by the photo that's the issue but my eyes aren't the best. 18 months after my install and still holding great.

I was wondering about how these things hold up, considering that Ford issued a recall for their Air Design hood scoops, which are held on similarly, using a combination of 3M VHB tape AND Polyurethane adhesive.
With that said, I installed a spoiler on my '17 Escape using 3M VHB tape but caulked around the perimeter using black Silicone sealer (aka bathtub caulking). It was still holding strong after 7 years.

I’ve thought about doing the same around the edges of my deflector due to the gap being big enough that I am constantly getting build up of pine needles etc do I have to worry about it damaging my clear coat at all?

Dealer installed mine, did not keep it tight along the bottom edge and I ended up with 1/4 inch gap along the top edge that filled with tree crap and dirt...and it bugged the heck out of me to look at while driving cuz I could see the white tape they used.. I bought an automotive Polyurethane calk/ adhesive that sets fast and dries non sticky.
I don't believe it will hurt the clear coat anymore than the tape would, but I cant swear to it.

Got it. You should then get a replacement. Mine has been on the BS for almost a year now with no issues.
