I recently ran into a serious safety issue with my 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend Ed. I have approximately 75k miles and I keep my vehicle maintained. As I was driving down the highway, I recieved an audible alarm and a red error message regarding my charging system failing. No sooner did I recieve that error, I recieved about a dozen other error messages regarding other key electrical systems failing. My center console immediately shut off, displaying a "power saving" message, my power steering went out, and my car kicked into neutral. This was especially scary as I live in Alaska and the Glenn Highway is known for its dangerous conditions and drivers. My child was in the backseat and the whole ordeal was quite nerve-racking. I had the vehicle towed to Kendall Ford in Wasilla where I was told "this isn't a recall issue as its not tied to your VIN." Yet upon visiting Ford's website and this forum, it would appear that it 100% IS a recall issue, reference recall #24S24. I was told that Ford will not comp the repairs or a rental/loaner unless it's a recall issue. I have already submitted a ticket with national, and I've had to pay almost $600 for a rental for the week because Kendall Ford in Wasilla will "get to it at some point in the week."

I'm really disappointed in the service I've recieved when I've been a Ford user for a few years now. Based on this experience alone, I'm not sure I can continue being a Ford customer. What other options do I have to get this taken care of?

Given the fix for that recall is just a software update, I don't see why they couldn't just attend to it. Not like it takes any parts or much time out of a service tech's day (and they're probably watching TikTok during most of it, anyway).

In any case, here's the NHTSA Recall Check website for you to verify for yourself: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21929390299&gbraid=0AAAAADuJq-4cS2zcuMOOm2zjK4xr2qsFI&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9obIBhCAARIsAGHm1mRAE8b82nBYTD4OuOpQzYbOxPYEBGI6hdnJs3w05YCmzT8nAwPhZ_8aAiE6EALw_wcB

Is it original battery? Probably just time for a new one and good to go. These newer vehicles give little to no warning that the battery is getting to the end of its life.
I wish that were the case, but Ford sent a mobile team out to my house maybe a month or so ago to replace the battery in connection with another recall issue. 😅

That means you most likely got an AGM Battery installed - odd that you would now have a failure after just a month or so - but it is possible the newly installed battery is defective (that can happen)

I'm pretty sure this was Ford's issue. They (Kendall Ford Wasilla) are telling me this isn't a recall issue tied to my VIN, yet they haven't even done the diagnostic yet.

They can see any open recalls easily with PTS/OASIS. They don't need to diagnose anything to see if there is an open recall on it. Message me the VIN and I can check in PTS and also see details on the codes it reported at the time of the incident.

Open recalls under your VIN are below:

Ford Bronco Sport Charging System Failure + plethora of other error codes 1761773124612-bu

If I click on the 25S76 link and go through the motions, it shows the software update for that issue was released on FDRS on August 18th. Unfortunately, due to recent changes in Ford's cybersecurity, I cannot run your VIN through FDRS to confirm if there is a PCM update showing for your VIN or not.

The truck reported a boat-load of codes; most of them having to do with battery voltage. The last time it reported itself to the cloud, the battery SoC was recorded at 0% and voltage at 8.1%.

Ford Bronco Sport Charging System Failure + plethora of other error codes 1761773344536-s1

If the purpose of the software update it to allow it to properly detect low 12v battery issues, then maybe the 12v battery/charging system does have an issue that it was not able to detect until the sh*t hit the fan.

That one SSM referenced by the ABS code says it could be the PSCM software that needs and update. This would not be covered out of warranty, though:

You'll have to wait until it gets into the hands of a tech and they start the diagnosis process. It does not seem (to me) like this will be very difficult to get to the bottom of once they start working on it unless there is some parasitic draw somewhere that will require them to run pin-point tests on the figure out, but that would not be covered outside of warranty, either, so hopefully the recall resoves it.

So basically, I get screwed because an issue with Ford software/parts so I have to pay? 😅🤣

Well, assuming it is the PCM software, that will be covered. If it is the PSCM software, it will not be covered or something causing an electrical draw, then you're out of luck. This is not a Ford thing......this is just how it is.

If you can somehow convince your service advisor to provide you with a list of pending module updates for your truck, you can always borrow one of my Mongoose cables and do the updates yourself. Access to FDRS will cost you $120 for a 2 day pass. I don't charge anything to borrow my cables other than a fully refundable deposit since they cost $600 each.

See what the dealer says and lmk if you want to go the DIY route. Details to my Mongoose loaner program are below:

@AMG1995 said About one month ago, the dealership mobile service installed a new battery at no charge under the battery recall, most likely an AGM Battery was installed - then the issues occurred (but I didn’t compare dates to the reports rugedraw posted)

it is possible the newly installed battery is defective or the black 12V negative cable attached to the driver front feeder is loose or the battery terminals are loose - all an easy fix if so

A charging system fault/failure will cause numerous system faults if they are not receiving the correct voltage or none at all. Unfortunately you are outside of any warranty period unless you have an extended warranty.
Did Ford give you a diagnosis?
Assuming the drive/accessory belt didn't break causing the charging system fault, alternators and batteries are wear items. Ford has a campaign to replace certain batteries that have a potential defect that can present itself at anytime and cause a charging system electrical failure.
The dealer can check if you have a suspect battery, Ford will replace it for free with a new AGM type. There is a recall (S24S24) that that is a software update that basically updates the the logic of the body control module and the powertrain control module to detect a failing 12 volt battery.

Check your main battery ground and that the battery terminals are tight
