Heaven forbid something happened to your Bronco Sport... what are you going to get next?

What are you replacing your Bronco Sport with, if you lost it today?

You are on target Mark with the fuel economy issue of comparing a Jeep Cherokee to the Bronco Sport. Doubtful that the Jeep is going to be as good as the Bronco Sport fuel mileage wise.

However, there is a question I'd also be asking, and that would be the reliability/repair/recall issues, along with turnaround time to get the vehicle back if any of the three mentioned have to take place.

I really like the BS we have, but am very, very concerned on the turnaround time that I may have to get the vehicle into the shop, then wait on parts, and with no loaner vehicle.
You're in for a shock then. The Jeep 6cyl Pentastar is rated 26 highway which puts it above a Badlands and a tad below the 1.5's. Reliability for both will come down to the exact car more than the brand and the repair will depend on the exact dealer.

I didn't take the Bronco in for any 3/36 warranty work because dealing with the issue myself was better than the alternative of multiple full day drop offs for "diagnosis" then "repair" taking who knows how many days. Warranty is good for a major failure, but frustrating for a small issue.

Actually, that's not 100% accurate. When I first got it, I dropped it off for that famous whirr/click noise that was likely the parking brake release cable. I thought it could be a major issue developing. They took a whole day to hand it back to me and say they couldn't find the issue. When I picked it up, I had a tech ride along and then he admitted it has a weird sound. My option was to leave it for a more extended diagnosis or possibly a transmission swap. I didn't need a transmission guy disassembling my 1,000 mile old machine so I just learned to live with it. If the tranny grenaded, I would deal with it then. I actually think the noise went away some even though I never got the upgraded cable.

I also have a current issue with the sunroof. The stupid seals are literally held with double sided tape. That's it.... TAPED together!! Not barbed or edged rubber. So it hasn't leaked, but the seal on the side is flopping around. I got a quote for a $50ish dollar part. Or I can try a home remedy with more... tape. Maybe some glue. Or I could likely have had a tech monkey replace the part under warranty and probably remove the whole sunroof to do it. I don't need a fix that will just cause more problems down the road and take days.

If we needed to replace our 2021 BS BB, I'm going to find a used, reliable Toyota 4Runner 4x4, no complicated computer assists, and forget saving on gas. At 70, I figure it will outlive me.

I owned a v6 Wrangler for 3 years, terrible mileage. more like 15 city, 16 highway. The 8 speed transmission was fantastic though

^^^This.

I've wanted one for years, but didn't want to pay the Toyota tax and deal with poor MPG's. Now I don't drive as many miles, so the fuel economy isn't as much of an issue. And the resale value comes back to you in the end.

The outgoing generation of 4Runners have a sluggish and outdated powertrain, but that's also part of the charm somehow, it feels like it's indestructable. My Badlands is great off road but my old Tacoma would breeze over terrain that I wouldn't touch in the BS. Traction control tech is no substitute for a heavier chassis, low range transfer case, more clearance and better articulation.

And, I hate going to the dealer for recalls and warranties several times a year. I drove my Tacoma to 170,000 miles with only two minor repairs, then the next owner drove it to Patagonia.

Our BS BL has had a lot of issues with the infortainment system radio turning on nearly every time you start the car or every so often the screen would not come on and stay black until the next time you start it and the dealer just could't fix it. Our 2018 Edge had the same problem even to the point that one time everything in the dash quit working but the radio played but you couldn't turn it off the dealer replaced the module but it continued to have problems that's why we traded for the BS BL. I use to be die hard Ford only but with Ford's inability or not wanting to fix their electronics problem I let the wife pick her next car and we traded for it last week a Honda Passport Trailsport.
There's one thing I've notice right away when ever you got close to the BS it became active with all kinds of electrical noises the Passport doesn't do that. We'll have to see how the rest of this new adventure goes.

After reading post 19 good luck with the Passport.

I'd be happy to buy a used BS Outer Banks or First Edition for cheaper than I paid for mine if I had to, but the other car that tempts me constantly is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio that are really starting to come down in price. A Quadrifoglio Stelvio or Giulia would be the goal, but I'm not made of money, and I'd probably be just fine with the regular trims levels.

Throttle House just made a video comparing the regular Giulia 2.0L with a Giulia Quadrifoglio, so I've got Alfas on the brain today.

I have to say, I just rented a Jeep Cherokee L on a recent weeklong trip and found it to be exceptional. Very comfy, powerful and silky smooth with the V6…. and tons of room. Certainly not direct competition with the BS but it really surprised me with its refinement. Wasn’t even on my radar until Last week.

Just an FYI, the BS Badlands outperformed the Cherokee since it's release, on and off road.

I did a lot of research on the Passport and found close to nothing about problems but if you search BS our most any Ford vehicle you'll find pages. I'm a Ford guy I've been buying new Fords since 1984 but Fords leadership stock market 1st approach and F everything else made me look at other makes.

How about in quality, and repair? How do these two compare against each other?

I recorded about 21 mpg over the week i was driving it (mainly around town. some highway mileage) in a pretty flat area (Florida). While not great, it's WAY better than the 15 mpg that my wife's Tahoe, with 316k miles on it, is getting. I'm in no hurry to get rid of my BS, unless something drastic happens, but this might be an option for her next vehicle.
Just for clarity, was this a 2024 model? I believe Jeep is making only the Grand Cherokee this year.

There have been recent articles about electrical problems and fires in the 2023 Grand Cherokees. Also a steering problem that may cause loss of control in '21 to '23 models. More recently there was a recall for rear view camera glitch.
My niece just bought a brandy new Grand Cherokee and my sister bought a brandy new Grand Cherokee L.
I'm crossing my fingers that Stellanatis has got these things under control and that my relatives' cars are good ones. They live in a small rural town in SD and it's a 30 mile drive to their places of work, so they do a lot of driving.

I haven't owned a jeep in many years, but the engines were always solid, the rest of it not so much. I would say just luck of the draw just like any other American truck these days, sometimes they're put together solid other times its a process of repairs. It will all come down to how you feel in it, but when it comes to performance on and off road. You will get more bang for your buck in the BS Badlands than in the Jeep. If you intend to modify it and make it truly an off-roader not a weekender then yeah the jeep is probably a better choice just due to the after market parts which there are VERY few for the Badlands. Something @Ford has completely dropped the ball on ignoring the market. Almost everything for the BS is geared towards the 1.5 and does not fit the Badlands. Something to think about. As for me, I am very happy with mine in the mountains of Idaho. Out performs all the other cross overs and small SUV's that is personal experience. If you live somewhere like Florida or AZ where mountains and snow aren't an issue the scenario may be different. Anyway I'm just rambling at this point so test them new both on the same day and if possible test them somewhere not paved for real world use.

Jeep had that problem too? I know that GMC and Chevy had stop sale orders for their small pickups and SUV's due to an issue. Didn't hear about the Jeep
