Heaven forbid something happened to your Bronco Sport... what are you going to get next?

What are you replacing your Bronco Sport with, if you lost it today?

I just sold my beloved 2007 Ford F-150, which was very dependable. I wanted to drive and put more miles on the BS since it sat in the garage most of its time until now.

It has to do as good as the truck did, or its gone.

I've been a life long Ford owner. With the 2 loss of power issues and all the recalls that I'm seeing of these Broncos, Mavericks and Escapes I may look at Toyota. My wife's 2018 Highlander has been pretty solid and she has 138K miles on it ... I'm thinking 4Runner or RAV4 ... reliability!

The dealership where I bought my Bronco Sport from called me today saying they had a special offer for me. I know it's marketing and I know it's to get me to buy another car from them, but it did get me thinking.

I'm at 6.5% APR and I can't find anyone to finance it at a better rate (my credit's great). I've had the Bronco Sport for 15 months and while I'm liking it, it can get a little cramped for cargo and there are small fit and finish issues. I haven't had any issues that most complain about.

I don't think I'd get a Big Bronco. I might consider a Passport Trailsport, but they're more expensive. Maybe an Outback or Crosstrek. I'd really want to get more into off-roading to see what my needs really would be.
We dumped our 2022 Passport for our 2023 OB. You think the BS has recall issues? The Passport was infinitely worse! Recall for mirrors literally falling off, infotainment recall that requires taking the entire dash apart and replacing wiring, rear camera recall that required taking the rear interior apart, etc.

Look up Toyota Tundra engine recall and Toyota fuel pump recall and maybe rethink the idea that Toyota's are problem free.

Right now, I'd go another Badlands. If another vehicle I would look at the Toyota 4Runner and would have to compare off-roading capabilities and inside space. I think the 4Runner has more back space and with growing kids that may be needed. I do love our sport though.

Love my ’21 Badlands, but wouldn’t go through ordering hassles and wait and lose many of the features I love on mine. Hopefully nothing happens to it as I want to keep it “forever” (75 w/health issues <lol>). If, however, it went bye-bye today I’d probably be looking at the bottom trim Land Cruiser or low-mid level Defender (God, I hope it doesn’t come to that).

I really enjoy my BS but I would likely get another make. Just so many questions on reliability and longevity (I’m only at about 7500 miles)

Now, If my current BS provides a number of years or relatively trouble free operation (like, to 100k miles), that could change my mind.

I like my 2021. I wouldn't buy a 2024 with all the Ford cheap-outs. I don't like the revealed refresh pics with the giant screen. I guess Maverick is a possibility but I don't think the tiny bed is worth it for a 4-door truck. Most every other pickup on the market now is too big, including Ranger, Tacoma and Colorado. Maybe back to GM. That's a very reliable brand in my time. Trailblazer? I like the current Jeep Cherokee, but it goes without saying that it's overpriced. I need my Sport to hang around.
I have to say, I just rented a Jeep Cherokee L on a recent weeklong trip and found it to be exceptional. Very comfy, powerful and silky smooth with the V6…. and tons of room. Certainly not direct competition with the BS but it really surprised me with its refinement. Wasn’t even on my radar until Last week.

I got a similar offer in the mail from my dealer today, along with a recall lol. Always marketing so they can make profit off the transaction. I’m sure they have to average $10K a trade to keep the lights on, often done by resetting your payment plan. So while I intend to trade up before too long, I need to be absolutely sure about my decision as I can’t do this every 2-3 years. Though obviously many do, as the 2-3yo used cars are common on lots.

If I stuck in the Ford camp, my choice would be Ranger (since they don’t offer the Everest here). I expect a larger more comfortable vehicle for longer road trips & I don’t think the full-size Bronco would be that. I am a truck guy though & Ranger might be about perfect to balance city & highway. I’m just waiting for my dealer to get one in to check out in person as I’m rather curious. They seem to only stock F150s though. While I loved my F150 (the shouldn’t have sold it vehicle for me), I do think they’d be a little large in the city.

The problem I’m having though is Toyota. They’ll offer me a Taco with a hybrid if I want to go pickup. If I want truck based SUV though, I can choose a 4Runner or Land Cruiser, all with decent mileage. Sized a bit larger for the highway, while they shouldn’t be too large for the city. I have my eye on a Lexus GX as well, should I decide I need to budget that much. While most aren’t built in N.America (the Taco is in Mexico though) nor do head office profits stay in N.America. But at least they’re a manufacturer supporting manufacturing here of other models.

You are on target Mark with the fuel economy issue of comparing a Jeep Cherokee to the Bronco Sport. Doubtful that the Jeep is going to be as good as the Bronco Sport fuel mileage wise.

However, there is a question I'd also be asking, and that would be the reliability/repair/recall issues, along with turnaround time to get the vehicle back if any of the three mentioned have to take place.

I really like the BS we have, but am very, very concerned on the turnaround time that I may have to get the vehicle into the shop, then wait on parts, and with no loaner vehicle.

I'm waiting to see what options/trims/upgrades drop for 2025. Ideally a Badlands or whatever that spied trim that looks even more off-roady is (Tremor? Raptor?) or if they introduce a hybrid option. Either way another Bronco Sport.

The only way I'd jump ship is if I was suddenly able to afford the new Toyota Land Cruiser or upcoming 4Runner. Or if Toyota ends up producing that teased Compact Cruiser concept or something like it, i.e their version of a Bronco Sport.

I recorded about 21 mpg over the week i was driving it (mainly around town. some highway mileage) in a pretty flat area (Florida). While not great, it's WAY better than the 15 mpg that my wife's Tahoe, with 316k miles on it, is getting. I'm in no hurry to get rid of my BS, unless something drastic happens, but this might be an option for her next vehicle.

Our BS BL has had a lot of issues with the infortainment system radio turning on nearly every time you start the car or every so often the screen would not come on and stay black until the next time you start it and the dealer just could't fix it. Our 2018 Edge had the same problem even to the point that one time everything in the dash quit working but the radio played but you couldn't turn it off the dealer replaced the module but it continued to have problems that's why we traded for the BS BL. I use to be die hard Ford only but with Ford's inability or not wanting to fix their electronics problem I let the wife pick her next car and we traded for it last week a Honda Passport Trailsport.
There's one thing I've notice right away when ever you got close to the BS it became active with all kinds of electrical noises the Passport doesn't do that. We'll have to see how the rest of this new adventure goes.
