The recall refers to "sudden" SOC change [decrease] and "sudden" degradation.

I was/am curious about could cause such a dramatic and rapid change in SOC and/or condition. I just posted about it on the other recall thread. I don't want to double post so if interested, it's #53 here:
https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/threads/5-23-2024-recall-24s24-on-hold-as-of-5-24-2024-hold-is-lifted.11399/page-4

Spoiler: It seems most/all of the problems were caused by a defective battery and exacerbated by the improper programming of the BCM and PCM.
I don’t think defective batteries are the primary issue at all. See my response to your linked post.

Just had the update on my BS. As far I noticed the Start/Stop duration has been changed. Before the update I could sit at a light with all accessorries off for roughly 3 minutes. Now the duration is roughly 2 minutes before the engine starts. What I suspect is the Start/Stop duration may have been too long which over time will increase battery degradation. The science says if a battery is continually discharged below a certain voltage, say 10 volts versus 11 volts over and over it will degrade faster. Some batteries are specifically made to discharge even lower without degradation, others not so good.
This is only one part of the update, the Battery Control Module itself might have been the sole reason and not the Start/Stop function. With 45 years of expierience behind me some batteries can go out in a day, others die a slow death that can last weeks. At any rate with such complex systems that require several computers to manage engine systems its no wonder that Ford has a few problems. As much as I admit to being a Ford guy you really need to keep on top of these updates. Good luck all.

Yes … incorrect calibration for the PCM (now allows alternator to run longer) and for the BCM were the primary issue. Auto Stop/Start became a safety issue - the vehicle dying.

Probably is no reason to continue to use Auto Stop/Start after recall 24S24 completed until say at least a year or so while owners test out recall 24S24 ?
I’d like to see real world testing of 24S24 … after a year or so we likely will know how well it worked. The real world testing in this case is just the owners driving their vehicle and posting new complaints (if any) about the charging system.

Received mine in the mail and in the Ford Pass app.
I may not want to do the recall, I have not had any electrical issues since having the battery replaced under warranty in 2022.

FWIW...Just got my recall notice dated June 2024.
VIN wasn't on list, but now my Little Brokeback Pony is on it. Just checked Ford Pass and it has same notification.

Man, these recalls are a hassle. My local dealer is an absolute disaster so I use one 30 mins away. Nobody around here does service while you wait, so it burns half a day with all the shuttling back and forth.

I thought they could do these software updates over the air now?

Unfortunately no, too many things could go wrong with BCM / PCM updates to leave it to chance with an OTA update

Many dealerships won't update modules unless there is a reason like the recall or requires updating to fix a problem

if it’s not broke don’t mess with updating module software is what a Ford tech told me recently

Just had the Recall and a free oil change done in my driveway by Ford Mobile Service. Very impressed with the excellent service. Two very nice well mannered men. Were on time and had everything done in about an hour. Including checking fluid levels, resetting the TMPS and checking tire pressure. They even remembered to reset the oil life monitor. Great experience.

I don't think Ford does mobile oil changes here. Any oil stains on your driveway?

Honestly, not a drop. I was a little worried about the oil change. It's been many years since anyone other than me has changed the oil on one of my vehicles but, they did an excellent job.
