I've had one on for about 1.5 years and 7 oil changes. There are 4 bolts that hold it on. Takes less time than removing the factory cover. I pull up on ramps, pull the skid and cover then back down and change oil. Move back up and install cover and skid. Prob took a couple times to get it down easy doing by yourself.

So with the skid plate you still have the factory cover in place?

Yes, you don't remove anything when you install the skid plate. Four bolts and it drops down and your bs is just how it came. There are 4 spacers involved.

I'm curious if anyone has installed the driver's side skid plate. I ripped mine last weekend on a two track road in the desert.

I will be installing JCR OffRoad side plates and rock rails this weekend. Will post later about it.
They also make a skid plate with a trap door for doing oil changes so you don’t need to remove the whole plate.

I have the rally innovations skid plate on my big bend. It's really easy to take off with a 3/8 electric ratchet. Probably less than 5 mins? I got it to provide protection to the bumper especially during the winter. Looks good in raw aluminum

What about oil filter access? I will be checking this one out for sure.

Those are going to be my next mods as well. Can’t wait to see them.

Yes, the trap door is the access to the oil filter. I have the HGR skid plate, having issues with the dealer putting it back on correctly. Personally I like the look of the HGR over JCR, I might just make my own access door.

Also, I think the JCR skid has access for the oil drain plug, except that it is not in the right place for the 6.6 quart pan found on later sports like mine. Cheers!

Really? Well scratch that one off the list. That is what I'm looking for. A skid plate with access doors for the filter and drain plug. I don't want to have to drop a cover or plate every time I change the oil. I think the oil change set up on the BS really sucks for the DIYer who's laying on his back in the driveway having to undo 13 Torx screws to get to the oil pan drain and filter. On my F-150 I installed the RCI skids and it has an access hatch for the oil plug with 2 screws. No more dropping the felt cover. Really speeds up the oil change. The JCR comes the closest but now it won't work with the 6.6 qt. oil pan. :headbang:
