Dummy me!!! what is ILOM ? I only drive about 5k annually and change oil at that interval at the Ford place. But I do remote start my engine for 15 min timer on almost every day that I don't drive it. Is that considered extreme? Could that also cause higher fuel comsumption in my case.
To start, I have no idea what ilom actually stands for but I'm guessing by context it has to do with the oil life monitor calculation, and no it shouldn't, to my knowledge, not if its just for 15 minutes, keep in mind I'm talking about running idle for 1hr+ for 5 days a week

Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor. Check the Scheduled Maintenance section of you Owner's Manual. It's on page 394-395 in mine.

Check the condition of your engine air filter. I assume it has never been changed. Do you have the OEM air filter still installed?

Just remove the filter and tap it on a hard ground surface until the dust no longer shakes out and reinstall.

Also check for any blockage around the air filter box and the fresh air intake coming into the box. The fresh air comes in from the bottom of the box.

This is what the Motorcraft OEM filter looks like.

I wouldn't idle for a half hour or so to download an update and you idle one hour 5x a week . Wow!

Yeah, not something I like to do, but in this 95-110° heat with a dark color car, it's absolutely necessary

Good to know, I'll be sure to do some reading on it when I have the time

The engine uses the most fuel when cold, so if you are idling a cold engine for 15 minutes every day that could definitely affect your fuel economy. The PCM keeps the mixture extra rich to get burning fuel out of the exhaust valve in each cylinder and down to the catalytic converter. The intent is to get the catalytic converter up to operating temperature as rapidly as possible, mainly because it doesn't do its job of scrubbing exhaust gasses until hot.

Instead of idling every day why not just put a battery charger on the night before you intend to drive it?

You dont need to run it for 15 minutes on days you dont drive it unless its winter and you live in Artic Circle or something. Just let it sit as long as vehicles don't sit for months without running they will be fine. Sitting days even a couple weeks in normal like climates shouldn't hurt anything.

Just an update from yesterday...

I had filled up I think on Monday. On my commute to work and home, the BS was showing 10 mpg. Yes, I need to start tracking it on my own.

Driving out of town mostly at 75 mph doing some spirited driving when I got to the big city, and after sitting here idling while I install these updates, I'm at 19.7 mpg.

It has to be the short commutes with frequent stops/starts.

If I lived in an area that required me to idle the engine to warm it up, I'd get a engine block heater. Keeps the block warm during night time (or prolonged sitting).

Ever since putting larger tires on my MPG hit the basement! 22. It REALLY killed gas mileage.
