The OEM charging pad is only 5W, depending on the type of phones you have (and their cases), charge time can be extremely slow and the phone may get pretty warm. My suggestion is to buy an aftermarket charging pad and plug into either the 12V PowerPort or one of the USB Plugs. Also to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto via wired USB, the phone will be plugged in making the need for a charging pad completely unnecessary.

Hmmm… my Badlands came with an installed wireless charging pad I use all the time. The only thing I use my USB port for is my tunes that are always plugged in. No reason I can see for wired anything

Thanks for your replies. However Im asking becase I have a spare wireless charging pad from my Mach-e that is the same P/N that the BS use. I want to know if the wiring in the BS Badlands have the connector to plug it in. Thanks,
Morey

Yes some phones that can charge reasonably quick on 5W work well on the Bronco Sport charging pad.

The wireless charging pad works well but I don’t use it much because my phone is always plugged in so I can use Car Play. I do wish the pad would work with my Apple Watch but it doesn’t. That would be nice if it could.

I agree. I ordered the charging pad with the convenience pkg and I find it almost useless to actually charge. And if the phone slides ahead in the slot it doesn’t continue charging either.

I thiiiiiink the charging pad is actually a 12W charger...which still isnt much... (i could be wrong though) I also have noticed since I've plugged the motorola wireless AA adapter into the USB port, the charging pad seems to charge slightly faster than before. I wonder if the 2 usb plugs and charging pad all share power thus making the pad slower when a phone is plugged in. Maybe the wireless AA adapter draws less power than a phone so the charger gets more?

Charging pad is 5W max

JerryC used a USB tester on the USB-A and USB-C ports to measure those, see his post: https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/threads/phone-charging.7172/page-2

The charging pad is essentially useless to me. I mean, I do agree with Bucko's assertion that it's not going to cause me to sell the vehicle or anything, but it's practically not of great value. It's nice that it has a clean integrated appearance into the car, but it's too slow to be practically useful to top the phone off. If you get a wireless Carplay/Android Auto adapter, with the screen off and the GPS usage delegated to the car's antenna (powered by the alternator/battery of the BS instead of your phone's battery), you might get a marginally decent charge rate over a long drive.

I bought Spigen's Magsafe dashboard mount instead, which is JUST the mount - no USB-C 12V DC charger, no magsafe puck.

Now, you might ask two questions...

Question 1: Why would I purchase an $18 mount, $31 official magsafe puck (Apple's official puck is $39 MSRP but often on sale) and a $15 dual outlet USB-C PD 12V power supply (total $64) instead of one of the dozens of ~$30 third party items that say "Magsafe compatible 15W car charger mount" on Amazon?

The answer is all of these seller listings are grossly misleading if you have an iPhone. The iPhone will accept Qi charging, and third parties can put magnets in a ring. They can even be capable of 15W Qi charging. But the iPhone will not accept more than 7.5W of wireless charging unless the device is officially Magsafe certified by Apple, which is scarcely better than the 5W charge rate of the BS' charging mat. The only officially certified out of the box solution for a car mount at present is one mount by Belkin that is 1) $100 and 2) is a vent clip mount. I don't like vent clip mounts for a variety of reasons (#1 using the air vents to support so much weight, #2 blasting the phone with hot air in the winter).

Question 2: Why have a phone mount at all if you use Carplay, why not get the phone out of the way? Magsafe mounts are incredibly convenient for short drives to take the phone on and off charging, and certain displays of car related apps can be complementary to Carplay compatible apps. If using Waze on Carplay, the main navigation is on the sync 3 screen, and if you have the phone unlocked, the list of directions and upcoming alerts (police, object on road, construction, etc) are on the phone screen. It makes it a useful secondary display in that app, and sometimes companion apps for other car functionality can be used (YaV1, Escort Live for radar detectors are one example.

-----------------------------------

Looping back to the OP question, I unfortunately haven't been able to determine if the wireless charging pad wiring is in vehicles such not equipped. To get to the charging pad requires the removal of so many dash pieces, I wouldn't even recommend bothering to put it in even if the wiring is there because it has such a slow charge rate. (I had to remove the charging pad piece to swap the HVAC controls in my 2023 BS BL to a 2021 part with the temp display screens, so I know the amount of effort to get to it...)

My wife uses her iPhone a lot, I mean A LOT! First thing when we get into the BS, she plugs it in and sets it on the charging pad.

I enjoy the ride and scenery.

I picked up a used First Edition a few weeks ago. The sales guy told me wireless charging and wireless carplay came with the FE. I soon found out that the wireless charger made my Samsung S22+ too hot to handle. Of coarse, wireless carplay didn't exist. I have a quadlock maglock case on my android phone and my wife has a maglock case on her iphone. I had a maglock charger in the Odyssey van we traded in. I took the charging head off the vent clamp and used double sided tape to stick it on top of the FE factory charger. I also got a cheap wireless carplay adapter. You can see the 2 usb sockets have connectors plugged in. There is a little hideaway above those usb's that can hide the adapter and wires. This way no wires to fool with when getting in and out of the car. On short trips when you don't need to use the charger the phone can stay in the pocket or purse and have carplay on the screen. When charging is needed the maglock gives a nice secure place for the phone.
