I'm an Electronic Engineer and I can assure you there's no way to boost it out of the USB port.

However, if you can get a cigarette lighter to USB adapter, you can probably double, triple or quadruple the output. Just use the round 12 V output next to the USB output.

Here's a link to one that quadruples it from Amazon.

And your phone will throttle it right back to what ever the algorithm suggests as a charge rate for the battery at that current state of charge and condition. This so called A.I. also watches the battery age and slows things down even more.
IF your a heavy phone user and your phone is three years old you should upgrade..

Yes, but it will take at least 2 times the 5 watts output of the USB connector in the Bronco sport. I know this as I can charge my XR in a little over an hour on a higher current output charger and it takes around 3-1/2 hours on a 5 watt, 1 amp output charger, so your concerns are unwarranted.

What this means is that my iPhone will take around 3-1/2 times more than the Bronco puts out. If I have 4 times more available, it simply doesn't work as hard.

Your way is fine if your willing to sacrifice battery longevity. And in many cases doing it your way will still let your battery survive for four or five years. But will be at a reduced capacity.
I may use 15-25% of my battery each day now. Next year I expect to use 25-35% and the third year 30-50%…
Over many phones now the fourth year was 40-80%.
My last one the fifth year sucked..
Like I said upgrading every three years you can fast charge to your hearts content.
I preferred to get 4 strong years out of my $800 phone.
I am not a wealthy man.

I don't mind sacrificing battery longevity as I only charge my phone once every week or so and so I could get much more than 4 or 5 years out of my phone if I wanted to, perhaps 7 years or so.

But I don't. I get a new phone every 3 years or so for the features it has that I want and I can afford it. Statistics say that a ton of people do the same as me so they shouldn't worry about it either.

So I just got a quote on replacing my battery locally. $69.00

Why in the world should I care how much I shorten my battery life when it only costs $69.00 and gets replaced every 4 years or so? I'm cheap but I'm not that cheap.

I would just like to have the phone charge while I use CarPlay. But the issue I'm having is while I use Carplay, the charging either keeps battery level at the same percentage when I plugged it in or I drop a point or two.

Way different than my Sony 1000 in my truck or the Sony 7000 on my bike. I plug in with those and even using CarPlay, if I drive for 4 hours, I have a phone charged 100% even if it was dead.

My Bronco's Sync system doesn't give me a good feel it can deliver that.

I do have an older iPhone 6 but its a company phone and I can only upgrade when they issue me a new one.

I'll get my own phone when I retire in a few years.

That's interesting, my android phones are able to charge while running Android Auto, Waze And Rocket Player(music).

Does Carplay take that much more power to run than Android Auto?

Yeah guys my rather new, six months or so IPhone 13 has a good size battery.
From a 100% battery charge I only use 12-22% on a normal day. Every night I charge up BUT
The battery management soft ware slows things up.
I plug up at 10:30 pm at say 78% battery. The system tells me full charge will be reached at 3:30am… BUT next time I’ll be at 84% and full charge will be reached at 4:30am.
This is a feature that Apple introduced in the last couple of years. If you always charge your phone at night, then the phone will learn that is your pattern. Then it knows that you also normally get up at a certain time. So, in order to keep the battery from sitting at 100% charge for many hours, the phone will charge up to 80% and then stop charging. About 1-2 hours before you get up, the phone will start charging again and get up to 100% before you wake up.

I really wish they would just let you choose what level of charge you wanted. I would be more than happy with an 80% charge. The Samsung battery saver mode sounds exactly what I want. I read a huge study about 5-6 years ago that tested LiPo batteries with different charging/discharging patterns. I should really look for that again. The short answer to the 30 page PDF was that the sweet spot for these batteries is to discharge to no less than 40% and then charge to no more than 80%.

If you want to keep your phone battery in the best condition you can for that 4/5/6 years, then you should follow a charging routine of 40-80%.

My MSI Raider Bass ass Gaming Lappy rarely leaves my desk and that means it’s plugged in and powered on when need be.

The Dragon control center manages my battery per my preferences and I choose best for the battery. It keeps the battery in storage mode.
It maintains a steady 50% state of charge. The very rare few times I go Mobil I have to remember to tell it to take the battery up to 100%.
Close to two years now with no noticeable loss of battery capacity..

Check to see if your cell phone is compatible with wireless charging. Turned out that mine isn't.
We use wireless chargers on our nightstands, so definitely capable.

It will charge when the phones are placed on the pad but just barely. A common issue is constantly cycling through charging/not charging. Removing the case seems to help with that but it still barely charges and generates a lot of heat.

Had a thought late yesterday. iPhone has a battery section under settings where it tells you how much capacity your battery has now compared to when it was new. Mine says 100%

So, I've owned it for 27 months, fast charged it the whole time as I don't feel like waiting for it and after all this time, the battery's in good shape. I'd say the software optimization of charging is doing its job and this proves that fast charging, at least for an iPhone XR, isn't a bad thing over a 27 month time frame.

Curiosity got the best of me. I ordered a USB tester and a couple of extension cables.

The way the tester plugs in directly to the ports on the BS I have to use an extension cable to be able to read the tester. Total cable length was 6 feet. Three foot extension plus three foot charge cable.

I used my Z Flip 4 as the test phone. It has a spec'd max charge rate of 25 watts. State of charge was 17% at the beginning of the tests, 22% when finished

Connected to an official Motorola 15 watt wall charger.
With a USB to to USB extension cable, 14.27 watts
Without the extension cable, 14.52 watts. A small drop through the extension cable.

Connected to a Samsung official 25 watt wall charger.
With and without the USB-c to USB-c extension cable, 19.47 watts No drop in watts with this extension cable.

In the Sport...
Connected to the USB data/charge port with the extension cable, 3.9 watts.
Connected to the USB-c data/charge port with the extension cable, 6.9 watts.
Disappointing results to be sure.

My caveat to all of this is that the tester was less than $20 and both extension cables were under $10 each. However given the max result very nearly reached the rated maximum output of the Motorola wall charger I think the results are "close enough".

I would be really surprised if the USB-c was less. It is typically higher for every other application too.

Buying a 2023 44 thousand dollar vehicle should not require adding this or that birds nest of wires to charge a phone or connect to anything. If not for the capabilities the electronics and people friendly items generally fall short. USB phone charger should be at least the 2 amp version. The wireless charger should be top notch. I am tired of adapting this or that. As NOT an electrical or vehicle engineer I can say these guys are cheap morons for what goes into a car. I probably could retire off the copper I have from all the crap adapted over the last 35 or so years. Sorry for the rant but the words just get an adapter just rubs me wrong.

Did they remove the charging pad for 2023? I find it works well in my 2022.
