I have a 25 BSBL Sasquatch. The only option that would improve the off road capability would to have a winch in case I get stuck. Has anyone heard about a mounted unit that will work? I don’t want to damage the body. I have seen a remote winch but i am sketchy on if they work well. There is the 120v plug in the back compartment but I’m not sure it can handle a winch. Any recommendations?

First off an apology for completely derailing this thread.

I also have a badlands Sasquatch. I’ve not found any off the shelf solutions to mount a winch front or rear. It’s not super straightforward or someone would be offering one by now and there’s likely not a huge demand.

In talking to friends that do a lot more off-roading than me, their go to is always a shovel and traction boards. Usually the first thing they use even if they have a winch. A winch without a suitable anchor point isn’t much help.

As a bonus a shovel and traction boards are a lot cheaper too 👍🏼

Adding a winch to a unibody vehicle of any sort is a tricky proposition because there is no frame to which you can attach a winch mounting plate. It's all sheet metal for the most part, so not structurally heavy enough to support the weight of a winch and if you did manage to attach it, if you hooked up and really started pulling on it you would likely bend the crap out of whatever you bolted it to.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to bolt a winch on the Bronco Sport. It's a uni-body and there is a great chance you will alter the body structure on your first pull. Now you can take your Bronco Sport to a custom off road shop and they can tear the entire front end apart and reinforce the uni-body to accommodate a front end winch. But buy the time you are done paying for all that you should of just traded the Bronco Sport in for the full size Bronco and saved yourself self a lot of money.

Ive only heard of people using a hitch mount winch
Considering the towing limitations on the rear hitch, I’m not sure that is even a good idea. If perhaps your only option, but, it wouldn’t be my first choice.

People who are saying it wont work because of the uniform construction... Why would it cahse damage if it were connected to the two reckvery points? This would need to be a custom made bumper or mount but doesnt seem like it would need any reinforcement as they are already recovery points
We are talking the Badlands with sasquatch package here, but also applies to the badlands without sas, and even the outer banks with sas and maybe the big bend with black diamond.

The recovery points are specifically reinforced for that purpose. That’s why I suggested a portable winch, which is intended to be anchored to those.

Your towing limitations would have no effect on the winch. Your limited towing limitations are due to engine size and vehicle stopping power. That trailer hitch itself is attached to your vehicle. The exact same way as a hitch is attached to an f-350. You're not ripping that off of there pulling it out with a winch. A perfect example of this would be a tow company, often hooking to the receiver to pull a vehicle out. It's a solid mounting point and it's also centered making it ideal for pulling from almost any angle.

If you get the Sport in a situation that would require a winch to help get you unstuck you need to plan better besides there are not really any robust winch mounting options at this point in time.
While it is easy to get stuck in sand, snow or mud, planning helps to counter that problem.
Tires make a big difference in where you can go and what you can do. Driving technique goes along way as well, don't let your ego take over and steer you into a bad situation like following friends or real 4WD vehicles into the unknown, it's better that they get stuck than you.
Unless you have a 2.0 model Sport or Sasquatch trim, you are limited in recovery points.
If your Sport has the tow package or an add on trailer hitch it can be used as a recovery point. There is also a recovery adapter available from Ford that screws into the structure behind the bumpers, it's fairly inexpensive.
As others have mentioned, carry a decent quality tow strap, traction boards and a shovel are also handy and carry your cell phone, you never know if you'll need extra help.
Good luck with your offroad adventures.

I have a tow strap and shackles. But I also have a portable winch that hooks to the ball on a hitch. Only problem is, it is under the rear seat of my Maverick FX4. More room under there than in back of my Badlands.

So winches are weird. They are sized by weight of pull AND that changes. A 4000 lb winch is only 40000 for the first layer of rope around the drum, the next layer is 5% less (larger drum once later if rope or cable is around it).
First layer isn 4000, second isn3800, 3rd
Is 3600, etc there are likely 4-7 layers of line on a winch . So the final pulling power could
Be 65% of base pull power. A 4000 lb winch would only be 2600 on the last layer.

Now size you want 1.2-1.5 times the weight of your vehicle , you Arnt going straight up, you have 45 degree slopes, engine assists, block and tackles, etc. you don’t need
To straight pull everything. Winches are slow, use them right and you can pull a semi along.

The factory recovery hooks on a BS BADLANDS are removable
And replaceable with a mount that would be sufficient for a 5000 lb winch, but you would lose crawl camera, and front collision sensors, the winch would be right in front of the sensors.

The recovery hooks (stock on BL models), are beefy, they are reinforced structurally inside the vehicle . ONLY the BS BL trims have the reinforcements on the subframe to support towing , (dunno about Sasquatch package + lower trims I researched the hell out of my 2022, no SAS package then). The other trims will cause damage with any significant load on recovery hooks. Additionall ly even With BS BL you should use a bridle linking both hooks into a single point so they pull at a 60 degree angle to the vehicle vs straight on a single .( basically take recovery strap rope, put through both hooks with slack so it makes a big triangle, use the pointy away from bumper part as your attachment. Spreading load to both hooks and inline with vehicle wheels)

Ford ranger lifts makes a heck of a bumper but you have to modify it to make it fit the BS BL but it can easily withstand the forces of winching. If you made had a portable winch (like a 3 ton come along ), and used it right you would be better off than 99% of people. Plus the manual labor part will inspire you to not get stuck.
To each point va
