1971 Ford Pinto Wagon. It had the "big" 2.0L engine with 100HP. 0-60MPH in about 30 seconds with a tail wind, downhill. Paid $1095 for it. Soon after an 1974 Opel Manta Coupe.

1st car I owned and really liked was a 1976 Toyota Celica GT Liftback.

My first vehicle could be described as a unique British car that hated Canadian winters !

It was a 1970 Sunbeam Alpine ( not the 2 seater sports car and not the iconic Sunbeam Tiger V8 !). This was a 4 seat fastback with a distinct sloping roofline (see Google for pictures).

They were built by Rootes (Chrysler UK) and imported by Chrysler Canada to fill the need for a small 4 cylinder car in their lineup.

One major problem, this car was not built for cold and damp weather and always refused to start in these conditions ! Believe it or not, my Dad and I solved this problem by removing the distributor cap and plug wires and then warming these parts in the oven for a few minutes. After reinstallation, our British import started immediately !

Cheers

Not my first car, but the first one I remember driving was an '56 Ford Prefect 100E in left-hand drive. Even though we were the same age, it was already a beater. Absolutely gutless little three-speed, dangerous at driveway speeds, but hilariously fun for a 13-year old. You didn't steer it so much as coax it in a general direction. 0-60 before dark (if you started before lunch), and it didn't brake so much as just got tired of rolling.

1966 Ford F100 pickup. I did a lot of upgrades to it
solid truck with a big V8.

I sold it to a friend and then his neighbor bought it off of him for his son to drive and it still lives this day on a ranch in Missouri. warms my heart

My first car was a '77 Pontiac Astre that my uncle gave to me in 1988. The rear floor was rusted out, and you could see the ground. I got a decent year out of it, but it was free and a rough ride.

That '76 Celica Liftback is sweet, I had a '81 Celica GT, last of the second gen Celica's.

You could say that, but I’ve owned more OTF’s than blue ovals. First Ford I owned was a ‘56 F100. I think I’m more inclined towards mid-50’s through’60’s than any particular make.

1967 Mustang fastback. Red, black deluxe interior. 289 2V with 3 speed manual. Bought in May 1975 for $750.00. Used all of my previous summer's hay baling money for it. Long story short, lost my license in October 1976 & let my brother drive it. He put it into a tree on the first snow storm & totaled Mom's Delta 88 the next day. I've had several Mustangs since, but you always love your first the best. We traded our 2019 Mustang GT for our 2025 BL.

My first car was a 1970 Mustang Coupe, white w/blue vinyl top & blue interior, 250 cu in straight six & a C-4 auto. I bought it in 1976 from my older brother. Not my car, just a pic from the internet.

First car was a 1974 Triumph TR-6. That was a fun car. Had 4-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive, which gives you 7 gears to chose. Wire wheels and it came with a hammer to remove the wheel. Two Weber carbs which you had to balance every two weeks or so and keep a small amount of engine oil in the damper. No air conditioner. The manual listed top speed of 121mph and I got many tickets to see if it would really do that (highest I ever got was 118 mph). Insurance company told me that if I got one more ticket, I would lose my insurance.

1973 Ford Ranchero with the 351 Cleveland. It was a classic orange/brown and I couldn't help but smile while driving it.
The Cleveland was a great motor. It was also chosen for the De Tomaso Pantera. I remember one at our local Ford dealer in San Diego in 1972, $8,800 new.
