It is impossible for the navigation map updates to update using WiFi. The files are too large. You must download map updates and use a USB flash drive to update. You can also order a pre installed version on a USB drive from Ford.

For 3 years after purchase of the vehicle, you will receive opportunities to download and update the maps. After that you will have to pay for the update.

You have the opportunity to receive 1 and only 1 update each calendar year.

Sync 3.4 can be updated through a connection to WiFi but never navigation maps. Ford has issued map component updates through Wi-Fi. I remember a map voice update that happened before thorough Wi-Fi.

Travel is part of SiriusXM and requires a subscription.
They were definitely updated through the wifi. I only updated the maps once on my Edge using the preloaded USB when it was new otherwise I never downloaded or purchased the USB. The updates would happen in the background over time.

Found this on Page 395 of the 24 Bronco Sport Owners Manual

"Annual navigation map updates are available for purchase through your dealership. Depending on your purchase agreement, you might be eligible for a free map update. You can choose to download the map data update onto a USB, order a USB, or use Wi-Fi to deliver automatic updates. To update your map data over Wi-Fi, your vehicle must be connected to a Wi-Fi access point. Map data files are large, so it is highly recommended to perform the update when free Wi-Fi is available otherwise high data rates may apply. For USB updates, free map update eligibility, and other details, contact dealers at 1-866-462-8837 in the United States and Canada or 800-557-5539 in Mexico or visit our local website for more information."

Still trying to figure out how long I am eligible for free updates.

All of the ‘21-‘23 owners were told Nav Map updates require a USB Device. But let’s hope the Sync 23188 update now supports Map updates via WiFi (wouldn’t be the 1st time the BS owners manual was cut and paste from another vehicle).
Yep, you are correct. I found many instances in these owners manuals where it say one thing and it is no longer true or is just not accurate because the wording is from a previous version of the manual and it no longer applies. That is why I plan on waiting a couple of months to see if the update downloaded over wifi before purchasing the preloaded USB to update the map.

Is your Edge equipped with Sync 4A?

All updates for Sync 4 and Sync 4A are over the air updates.

No, My Edge is 2019. All my current vehicles are sync 3 and I am actually happy with that. I had a 23 Escape for a short time that had sync 4 and it takes getting used to. I know that with sync 4 everything is updated over the air but in order to keep the navigation maps working with sync 4 you have to sign up for Ford's annual subscription at $80 per year. A lot of the manufacturers are going to annual subscriptions for navigation.

Ford Bronco Sport Sync Navigation Map Update NA 2 23 Now Available IMG_4431
I’ve had the same Gracenote Version: 1.1.1.2323 (NA-0020) since Navigation Maps Version: NA 2 21.

does it show during your installation that Gracenote was updated or how do you know that Gracenote was updated?

Windows. I'll call the 800 number Monday.
I made the call.
After providing my personal info, and VIN number, and they verified the Year, Model and color, their software tracking program determined that my VIN number is invalid. Now that's highly unlikely since I ordered this car, was provided the VIN when the order was to be sent to manufacturing, and tracked its build to my delivery. And I have photos of the labels on the B pillar with VIN on them.
IOW, their Serial Number Software tracking software is faulty, or doesn't have updated information for newer cars in its database. My car was manufactured Dec 9-11, 2023.
Their solution? Leave the car's WiFi enabled, located near a WiFI hotspot,( such as in my garage) so that Ford can connect to my car, update its VIN and software serial numbers, and then I should try the download again in 24 hours.

very confused about these free updates. I just called Ford Customer Service and the rep said on new 24 Bronco Sport I get 1 update within 1 year.
That's the info that I got from a Ford Sales rep, verbally. Policy on the free map updates to only one freebie.

Same thing happened to me on my ‘22 at my 1st Maps update - VIN # invalid

After working with a specialist at the # you also called, I came to the realization that Ford’s vendor for the Maps software doesn’t have or isn’t provided with the latest VIN database.

You can call back and ask to be elevated to a specialist that can authorize the vendor to provide the USB Device sent to you which contains Maps 2 23 (that will require approval from a Ford manager which the specialist takes care of for you).

I ended up with 3 USB Devices sent to me via US mail as I worked with the vendor and the specialist to determine the root cause of the VIN issue.

The person I talked with, said try the download after 24 hours, and call back either way, if it works or if it doesn't.

They gave me that and a bunch of other (non working) things to try. Nothing worked for me bc the Maps upgrade is VIN specific and my ‘22 VIN wasn’t recognized back in Sept to Oct 2022. Took about 6 weeks but I was able to debug their software issue and learned a lot about how the Maps upgrade works.

I downloaded the files and started the update, but I got an error SIGN_ERR02 (hashtag mismatch) telling me to download the files and try again. But the complementary download option was gone. I had to purchase the USB from Ford. Smooth move Ford, smooth move, keep sticking it to your customers.

If you could provide the following additional info it might help others experiencing that error..

At what point did the error pop up?

Was it while downloading from the Ford website to your computer?

Was it as you were writing the files to your USB Device?

Was it after you plugged in the USB Device into the vehicle and started the update?

Are you using Windows 10, Windows 11 or a Mac?

What size is your USB Device?

This will be my fourth update. The first three were no charge.

Maybe someone with a 2022 or later vehicle can click on the link to see if the download is no charge for them?
I have a '22 BS OBX and was told by the dealer when I took delivery in January 2022 that the updates were no longer free.

You may want to check on Fords Sync website as many other ‘22 owners report their ‘22 has between 3 to 5 free Nav Maps updates (by downloading to your computer).

I am not sure if the number of free Maps updates for the ‘22s is determined by which model and package was purchased (I have the 2022 Bronco Sport Badlands with Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ (Premium Package) and have received 3 Maps updates via download method so far).
