You can choose to wait on the navigation update until after Ford releases the next Sync update. It’ll be much easier then.
Yes! 👊

As I reported in this thread, like @thomasm23, while installing the latest Navigation Maps NA 2 22, I received Error Code: MEM_ERR03

Post #4: https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/threads/latest-sync-3-map-will-be-available-on-or-near-august-14th-2023.9358/

And after the NA 2 22 install had apparently completed, I received Error Code: VER_ERR08 followed soon after by the FordPass App loss of communication (synchronization) with the TCU - Telematic Control Unit Module (modem).

With a byzantine approach I was able to restore the FordPass Apps connection to the vehicle but not without much consternation. It’s a complicated procedure even had to put the Settings into Valet mode!

It really bodes well to delay the install of the Navigation Maps NA 2 22 update until after Ford releases the next Sync 3.4 update that corrects the 22251 issues. There is no predicable way to know how the system will react under the 22251 installation that most have in their vehicles.

But in the end (and because it is just a machine), everything is back to working and I have Navigation Maps NA 2 22 installed.

Can anyone tell me why I need Nav functions in the infotainment system when I have a smart phone with three different Map apps that all work fine?

Not everyone has a smart phone with three different apps that work fine is my guess.

Sounds like I should wait. Cause without bad luck I would not have any, and if I try to install the new Maps all hell will break lose.

Built-in navigation offers at least one advantage: off-line maps. If you go out of cell range with your smart phone you lose navigation/traffic-avoidance capability. You can download off-line maps to your device, but if you forget to do so before you get out of range you lose navigation capability.

If Android Auto was wireless on the BS like my wife's HR-V, I wouldn't update the NAV. Once you get used to wireless Android Auto, using a wire sucks.
Yes, I know I can buy the Motorola MA1 wireless set up but I've read some are having an issue with the 22251 set up. The adapters aren't 100% perfect when working.

Because I only have one Map app that works fine.

Seriously, like Mark S mentioned, offline maps comes in handy. Another reason is just having another option in case the Map apps aren't working.

Twice I was looking for a location (once a house I was delivering to, another a store) and both Google and Apple couldn't find it. The store, I just looked for a mall I knew was near by. For the house, I ended up using the out of date navigation in my Accord and it led me right there.

You could always lose your phone, but the chance of losing your BS. The odds are in your favour.

Did you deactivate the vehicle from FordPass app before installing?

I had to free up some space in rwdata partition before installing by doing a soft reset for 2 minutes. I assume the MEM_ERR03 refers to the rwdata partition.

What was your procedure for install?

I did the Nav NA 2 22 install the 2nd time using a known good 64G faster USB-C device and that worked (instead of a known good 32G USB-A device).

However sometime after the Nav update completed I lost access with the FordPass App. So I needed to create Sync memory space by using my procedures for that and was able to restore access with the FordPass App.

btw … I think with 3.4.22251 the types of issues people will have installing Nav NA 2 22 may depend on what Sync features they use, if they use AT&T Hotspot, how many phones they connected on Bluetooth, their use of AA/CarPlay, number and type of errors Sync has logged and many other factors. So it seems likely that different vehicles can exhibit different issues with the Nav install.

And my suspicion of why Ford has not released the Sync update to fix 3.4.22251 is for issues like a master reset freeze and other issues difficult for many Owners to deal with.

The memory issue with 22251 might make a reliable way for Ford to upgrade Sync impossible or difficult. And the issue affects many Ford models over many model years. Huge problem!

That is my guess on why it has taken Ford so long to develop a Sync fix and why it is not released yet. However Cyan Labs has had their first solution May ‘23 and released a 2nd update after that. Which is puzzling.

Those are my thoughts (guesses).

@thomasm23 are you aware of the set of known solutions when an owner uses Master Reset and the screen freezes on the master reset and never finishes?

A Sync Reset works to restore access but whenever Master Reset is performed master reset freezes. (In this case I think they did the “quick” Sync reset and did not perform the “2 minute” Sync reset)

Do you know what will cause a Master Reset to freeze and never finish?

I believe the navigation downloads used to be free, and now we have to pay for a one-time digital download. That's crazy! But understand that Ford's trying to make money out of us. What are Gracenotes? Is that a media player file? Do we know what specific changes are in this version?
