Since the only place my BS has reliable wifi is inside my garage, I have auto updates disabled. I follow the manual process for updating via USB. The update drops an XML file back on the flash drive that you can upload to the website to confirm the update. It just doesn't work reliably.
Remember.. it won’t need to update bc you already installed the latest 22200. You are only checking (confirming) using WiFi and that will communicate to the Ford server. Hope that makes sense.

Thinking back to the last upgrade, I think this is exactly what I did when I thought the USB upgrade failed. But reporting the log file via the website should have the same effect. I’ll try Wi-Fi to verify.

Called the Ford number.. Guy said scan for updates and try the maps update site after 24hrs. Reason is to ping ford's server to allow me to download it.. Sounds like BS! Like why can't you guys fix the website or at least send me a link to download the maps.. Still stuck on na 2 20 for now. I like sync but the updating process is a pain..

The scan for updates using the 8” screen then trying the Nav maps update site after 24hrs does nothing useful however the Nav updates website as of 10/26/2022 recognizes 2022 MY Bronco Sport VINs and this error should no longer occur:

“InvalidModelYear(<2010): The vehicle’s model year is not eligible for a Sync 3 map update. Please check the VIN.”

Overnight my Ford Bronco Sport support account notified me of a Sync update being available.

Just for grins, while I was in the software update website, I decided to check on the Map update.
at https://syncnavigation.com/ford/home When I entered my VIN, it was recognized and I was
presented with the option of paying for a USB stick containing the update, or downloading the
update to my computer.

For the Nav 2 21 update, that Ford website recognizes 2022 MY Bronco Sport VINs as of around 10/26/2022. I installed Nav 2 21 10/27/2022 on a 2022 Badlands and installed SYNC3 3.4 22200 same day both via USB Devices. No installation issues. Both were no cost to me.

Site says update available, but upon "ordering" the file to download I get: "Your order cannot be completed at this time. Please contact customer service at (800) 392-3673 to report this error.(016) "

Does the Sync3 update need to be done before the Nav update is attempted?

That’s a bummer. Hopefully will be up and working again soon for you.

I asked the Ford Software update support team (SYNC3 and Nav Maps specialist) that question and the answer is: in theory the 2 installs can be done in any order but his recommendation was to install Nav 2 21 first and install Sync 3.4 22200 last.

Here are the details:

Nav Maps 2 21 update from USB Device took 45 minutes. The instructions call for a power the vehicle off then back on.

SYNC 3.4 22200 update from USB Device took 10 minutes and required the key cycle procedure and I needed to re-add my iPhone 13 Pro to Sync3 (Bluetooth).

key cycle procedure steps:
• Stop driving
• Ignition OFF / Stop
• Open and close driver's door and lock it
• Wait at least 2 minutes (ensure SYNC Display shuts off)
• Unlock / open driver's door
• Ignition ON / Start
The vehicle software update is now completed.

After the SYNC3 update completes, an XML Log File is created on the SYNC 3, Software Version: 3.4 Build 22200 PRODUCT USB Device which cannot be uploaded to the Ford website due to an issue Ford is aware of. Instead of uploading the XML Log File, Ford advised me that the Sync version in my Badlands will update the Ford website on its own in a month.

This just means that the Ford website continues to show that SYNC3 and Nav Map updates are available for my Badlands but the Settings screen shows the software is updated in the vehicle.

See I just followed the online instructions to just download the navigation to the zip drive and plug it in for the update. Simply not true for me I had issues. What I found out.
I should have just downloaded to my laptop. From there unzipped the files. When I opened the System32 folder I saw the following going from memory....
Folder: Syncmyride32
Installation file
Some other file
LIcense agreement that needs placed in the Syncmyride32 folder. I found this out after calling Ford. Once this is placed in that folder then:
Copy the Folder: Syncmyride32, Installation file, Some other file, from your Laptop onto your zip drive and now you are ready to install.
I did have a 32gb zip drive and I made sure it was formatted in Exfat
Going off of memory so if someone needs better files names I can get them since I have it saved to my laptop now!

Has anyone else done the update and have the Sync system shut down and get the black screen of death? I did the update in the afternoon, and it worked fine that evening going to dinner, then in the AM heading to the Airport it wouldn't come on. Shut it off multiple times and waited a few minutes and nothing. When I go into the Ford Pass it still thinks I am at home while parked 40 miles away. I am assuming this is a glitch in the download and will have to take it to a Ford dealer but posting to see if anyone else had this issue.

Haven't had any problems with sync updates.

You can try to perform a System Reset,

Press and hold the Seek Up (>>|) button while pressing and holding the Radio Power button. After approximately 5 seconds the screen will go black. Allow 1-2 minutes for the system reset to complete. You may then resume using the SYNC 3 system.

I did both the Nav Maps update from USB and the Sync3 update (also from USB) with no issues.

After trying the Sync Reset mentioned in a recent post, if that does not work you could try the Master Reset and if that also does not work some suggest disconnecting the battery for 15-20 minutes.

And before going to a dealership, you could call Ford Software update support team and ask for a SYNC3 specialist (+1 (833) 389-0848 or Daniel at +1 (866) 631-3788 ext 76377) but I doubt they will offer more than the various resets for the problem you have now. Your install might be a partial install and interrupting the Sync3 update can cause the issue you have.

Master Reset
1. Review and Save Settings in order to restore Settings after Master Reset completes.
2. Start your vehicle. Ensure your vehicle is in park and running, not in accessory mode.
3. Press Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
4. Choose General.
5. Scroll down and press Master Reset.
A message confirming that all system settings will be erased and reset to factory defaults will appear.
6. Press Continue.
A Resetting to factory defaults message will appear, the system will turn off and the screen will go blank. It may take a few minutes for the system to reset and resume normal operation.

And you could add on the key cycle procedure steps:
• Stop driving
• Ignition OFF / Stop
• Open and close driver's door and lock it
• Wait at least 2 minutes (ensure SYNC Display shuts off)
• Unlock / open driver's door
• Ignition ON / Start

Then:
1. Restore all needed Settings including to rejoin WiFi and adding your phone onto Bluetooth.
