No issues using a 256gb SanDisk Ultra Fit micro thumb drive (about 50 percent filled with MP3).

Mine works great now that I updated to the latest Sync 3 release. The previous release worked for 2 years then got flaky. I run all .m4a files on a 32 gig exfat format.
How do you update?

If you can't wait for them to fix their issues, PM me your email address and I can send you a link to download the zip file. Also, see the attached instructions for the install. Cheers!

@kshaw … did you get a chance to try any of the suggestions throughout this post (e.g. Post #14) and now your have your USB Device music working?

Even thought Ford has a documented recommendation of 128MB max USB Device, I think that may have more to do with the USB size that works across any of Ford’s Sync3 Hardware (for example, APIM in Bronco Sports) … some of Fords Sync3 vehicles have less memory in the module that runs Sync3.

As you see from others posts, even a 512GB SanDisk Ultra Fit USB-A formatted NTFS (356 GB used with 9400 FLAC files) works in a Bronco Sport with no issue.

Another thing that sucks up memory in the APIM is what Apps are run, for example both CarPlay and Android Auto take up available memory - so owners with 256MB and 512MB USB Devices could be running with less Apps.

Ford’s recommended 128MB may be conservative to account for several variables.

But at least you can see that a USB Device containing music up to 512MB can work in a Bronco Sport.

Nothing has worked so far. I copied everything to a 128gb drive formatted Exfat with no change. I am using an Ottocast wireless adapter which may be creating some conflict but tried it without the Ottocast and it still does not work. Next step will be to use a 32gb drive with two or three music files and see if that works. I do have a lot of apps that run on Carplay.

We still have no idea what build number of Sync 3.4 you are on.

Can you post the build number?

It is working now! I reformatted my Sandisk with 256gb to NTFS and the USB is now recognized and working well.

That’s great, I corrected my list of possible fixes for a music USB Device that stops working. Here’s the updated list that typically will work

1. UPDATED: Up to 256Gb USB Device is known to work to play music.
2. Try reformatting the 256G USB Device (NTFS) and reloading files (sometimes USB Devices get corrupted)
3. Check and upgrade to SYNC 3, Software Version: 3.4 Build 23188 PRODUCT or later version if available.

Guess I’m a little late to the party, but
use NTFS format for music files, and EXFAT for the system upgrades. Upgrade won’t work unless stick is EXFAT format. At least that’s my understanding, and what worked for me
