I have a '21 with 22251 installed. I installed it manually using a USB drive. The report-back-to-mama function didn't work on mine either--after installation Ford's support site still reported my system out of date. I stopped checking it. At some point over the next few months my car must have successfully phoned home and reported my system status, because it now says my system is up-to-date. I did a SYNC master reset during that time, and that may have been what forced the communication between my car and Ford's system, but I'm not certain about that.
Most ‘21s (all??) seem to report their Sync version to the Ford website within a month but the issue the Ford website has is with the ‘22 VINs (some at least), maybe ‘23s IDK. Ford is aware of the issue but there has been no fix.

my bronco sport also has 22251 installed and says up-to-date … the Ford website continues to say 22251 is available to be installed but it is a known issue Ford has been aware of for more than 8 months and no fix yet. Maybe @Ford Motor Company can provide an update on when the issue will be fixed for the Ford website.

@thekingprawn .. just curious do you have a ‘22 or a ‘23?

Yep thought so. I’ve heard from quite a few ‘22 owners with up to date Sync on their bronco sport but Ford web site continues to report there is a newer Sync version. That’s the known issue Ford is aware of.

I received confirmation today (7/5/2023) from Ford for the case # I filed on the Sync 3.4 Build 22251 issues: “the Sync update to correct issues in 22251 will become available in a couple of weeks”

The Ford person did not know if the Ford Sync update will be called 23088 (as it is on Cyan Labs website) or would be a different Sync Build #.

Because I turned off automatic updates, I will check https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/ starting in a few weeks.

Edited 7/22/2023: if you are someone that disabled the automatic (Sync) software updates based on this post, keeping this disabled may still be a wise choice. See follow-on post in this thread.

some owners choose to always leave automatic updates disabled so it’s a choice every owner can make based on their experience and information.

Thanks for the update! I had a bad experience with my first sync update on my 2013 Edge on Sync 2. The dealership had to keep it overnight to resolve.

Apparently Ford now also recommends that the Sync Automatic software updates be disabled. See pic which was posted today 7/22/2023 by a Ford Dealership (it is on a Bronco Sport Facebook Group). There is no fix from Ford yet.

I don't understand why this is taking so long to fix.

I've seen other software engineers get fixes out within a day or two. For something as major as an OS that's on hundreds of thousands of cars, does Ford just have some guy working on this during down time or something?

My guess is that because the software is so integrated with vehicle safety that a quick fix is simply never going to be on the table except to correct an overt safety concern.

Ford laid off many engineers recently. That could have an affect but IDk. What’s clear is Ford has been aware of the issue for around 6 months and the Sync 3.4 22251 issue affects many Ford model vehicles.

this is conjecture on my point as I have no detailed knowledge of Ford’s priorities however to me Ford will prioritize fixes and because even Cyan Labs has the fix out since May, it’s pretty clear Ford has needed to prioritize the Sync 3.4 issues well below other items given the available staffing Ford can apply to software issues.

This week I was told by Ford there is still no ETA for the Sync 3.4 22251 defect.

Don’t forget you might need to eventually turn auto updates back on after Ford releases a Sync update or occasionally check Fords website for Sync updates.

And unfortunately anyone with 3.4.22251 may eventually see the issues in 22251. The issues seem to be hastened if Android Auto or CarPlay are used.
