Our drivers ed car was a 1981 Chrysler K car. It always ranks in the 10 worse cars ever and is sometimes number 1.

We almost died as it did not make it up a hill on a road only one lane wide and the 16 year old learning just put it in park and started crying. It was a chore just to get the teacher in the seat as there was much yelling and cussing.

iirc, you couldn’t go backwards because you wouldn’t be able to stop it. I just remember we finally got enough people to get it up the hill.

It was an incredible piece of shit

I can't recall the vehicle I first learned to drive. I remember my father had a Ford "tank" he used for work but he gave me one lesson and then signed my up for Driver's Ed. (His name was Ed... but that didn't stand for education.)

My very FIRST car was a Ford Maverick. Great sedan/sporty car. 50 years later, I'm looking at the Bronco Sport and pass one... IT'S TURNED INTO A TRUCK!!!

I had a K-car (I think it was a Plymouth Reliant) as a lease in ‘85-‘86 while I was in Long Island at the Sperry plant for factory training on the LAMPS Mk III weapons system.

For a shitbox, it was actually pretty good in the winter weather, its FWD being the only thing that kept this desert Southwest boy out of serious trouble. Almost bought one when I got back home, but sanity prevailed.

I was 14, folks had a 1957 Morris Minor 1000. 4spd non- syncro! I think it had something like a 900cc motor. That was the first vehicle I learned to drive. Later on in driver Ed. We had a 1964 Plymouth valiant station wagon with auto. At 15 1/2, I took the driver's license test, in you guessed it, the Morris Minor! I barely passed, but I passed! This was in 1964. I haven't had to take another driver's test since. As an aside, I was given the Morris which I proceeded to blow two clutch disks before I traded it for a 1955 Dodge custom royale.

1959 English Ford Angilia, first car was 1970 Ford Maverick. Over the years I owned a 75 Ford Pinto station wagon, 79 F-150, 2000 Ford Explorer, 1991 F-150, 2012 Ford Escape, currently 2011 F-150, 2019 Ford Ranger and 2023 Bronco Sport. Obviously, I'm a big Ford fan. The only exceptions were two Plymouth Voyager Mini vans because Fords' mini van at that time was ugly and not a very reliable vehicle.

First drives were in a late 40’s pick-up and a ’50 Ford Tudor (way too young to drive — don’t ask). “Learned” on family’s ‘64 Ford Ranch Wagon . . . six cylinder automatic; beat the hell outta’ that thing. Rode bikes ‘til my first car, a ‘61 4 spd Corvair — I was the fourth owner.

In Driver's Ed, I believe it was a Dodge Dynasty and the instructor was an older lady that had been teaching the course for years.

At home, it was either a 1988 Nissan Sentra or a 1992 Pathfinder. Both Nissans were MT.
Also in Drivers Ed, in 1984 or 1985 can't remember what Kind of Car it was. Also my parents 83 Thunderbird that i also took My Drivers Test In. I Love those 1983-1988 T-Birds. Here's the 88 I Had.

1962 Ford Galaxy while still in junior high. In high school it was a newer Galaxy 1968, I think. I had a little motorcycle first. When I turned 16, I got my driver's license in a 66 mustang with my motorcycle on the back. The DMV guy asked my mom if I knew how to ride it and she said yeah, he's really good.

1973 Mercury Meteor 4dr with 400 V8.
67 Ford Galaxie 500 but before driving age farm pickups and tractors.
Before my Dad had his '73 Mercury he had a very nice '66 Ford Galaxy 2dr. fastback, black with red interior and 289 V8. I was much too young to have learned to drive on that car, but my brother (7 years older) learned to drive on the '66.

Dad’s car was similar to this.
