Speakers replaced

I followed this post as a good starting point. I took a few photos that might prove useful to someone. Thanks @UncleRenty for the deep dive! @RiotfunK was the impetus for getting the PowerBass speakers, that and the fact that the Pioneer speakers I ordered never shipped.

First, the stock speakers are truly anemic in comparison:
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667442401648

I want to point out that the connector is a very tight fit on the PowerBass speakers. If you go this route make sure you get them completely plugged in. The will seat all the way down, you just have to really force it.

I used the 2-way speakers both front and rear. I don’t believe that the tweeters in either set are actually getting powered. The back door has a tweeter in the top of the door panel and the front has tweeters in the dash. The connector for the 6.5’s only has two wires, I think. The speaker has 4 pins in the connector. I only have about 2 hours with it so far but it sounds pretty good but needs some level adjustments.

Here is a picture of the back door. Not much different than the front door in the other thread. I didn’t take pictures when I had that open.
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667442818345

I coated the whole plastic panel in a mastic (Dynamat knockoff).
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667442959686

I found it kind of difficult to get the little panel behind the door lever off. I took a picture of the back side just so others will know what they are trying to release. I ended up pushing a plastic trim tool into the gap and then inserting a small flathead screwdriver into the opening made by the trim tool and prying with the screwdriver.
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667443123528

Another bit of information for others is the reflector and the snap you need to release.
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667443198174

Another weird thing was the angle of the front screw on the bottom of the back doors. Just for reference, here is the piece it goes into.
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667443292479

I’m adding a link from here to get to the post for replacing the subwoofer speaker.

Just a reference for the Bandlands front hooks. Just showing the connection points.

The primary connection is the threaded end of the hook into a pretty large nut in the upper left of this image.
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667443600039

At the front, the hooks are stabilized by 2 smaller bolts.

You're definitely thorough. Looks beautiful. I knew you'd have a lot to customize after waiting for so long and watching the accessories pile up. 😝

On Wednesday, 26 October 2022 I took possession of my Cactus Gray Bronco Sport Badlands. Here it is in my driveway after the 90 mile drive home from Colorado Springs.

Why “Olive”? Well for me the color is the thing that really stands out and has gained a lot of comments and attention. For me, this color reminds me of the Russian Olive tree’s leaves.

There’s some green and some gray. So, I gave it the name “Olive”

With about 7 months between ordering and delivery, I had a lot of time to think about what I wanted to do. I also got a lot of inspiration from this forum and the member’s posts. I started to build a list of the the things I was going to do, along with ordering the parts and supplies I would need.

I took some pictures and collected some experience/thoughts while I was making these changes. Each item in the list below that I worthy of creating a post, is (or will be) a link to a separate post in this thread.

Here is my list:

Not listed as a fit match for the Bronco Sport but it does. Offset is potentially the issue for the 16” size but the 17” size has a 38mm offset. I think this is an oversight and I just happened to find it by snooping. This is a nice low cost option ($190/ea).

I chose the 16” size in order to get the taller sidewall. More sidewall is good for rocky trails and I live in “The Rockies”. The rule of thumb is the tire diameter should be double the wheel diameter. Not quite there with the 245/70/16 but it is a little closer.

Tire is Toyo Open Country A/T 245/70/16
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667436763217

It appears that there is potential to run a 15” wheel with a 75 series tire. It is hard to get anything in there to take a measurement but I can easily fit my fingers between the brake caliper and the wheel barrel.

Just to add a little bling and to get rid of the dreaded 2-piece Ford lug nuts, I went with these colorful lug nuts.
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667436898467

RYANSTAR 20Pcs M12x1.5 Wheel Lug Nuts, Closed End 6 Spline Nut, Bulge Acorn Cone Seat Wheel Locking Nuts, with 19 Hex and 21 Hex Security Key Multi-Color

Interesting that the weight of this combination is not much different than the stock setup.

Here is the new wheel/tire combo:

Here is the stock spare tire with steel wheel:
Ford Bronco Sport Olive - Meanderthal’s BS BL 1667437045768

I couldn’t get a picture while trying to hold the stock wheel and tire, which a now separated to harvest the sensors for the new wheels/tires. Those came in at just over 51 lbs. So, just a couple of pounds difference between the setups, which is less than the difference between one tire/brand and another in general. That is with a 245 tire instead of a 225.
Good choice with the 16” wheels and tires. I’ve never been a fan of the thin side walls but then I came from the days of 15’s with 33’s.

Awesome build you have going @Meanderthal! The new wheels and tire look phenomenal :sunglasses:

We do show the 17x8 ET+38 X-Trail as a fit in our system, so thank you for letting us know about the 16-inch working for you. I'll forward this to our fitment and web teams for a closer look.

To confirm, you went with the 16x7 ET+30, correct?
