I have had the Maverick on order for over a year and has finally shipped. I purchased a Big Bend in April (9000 miles) as I needed a vehicle at once and couldn't wait any longer for the Maverick. I have really enjoyed the BS, it drives great, pleased with the mpg (31), got the Napier SUV tent with points (haven't used) and was looking forward to having 4wd for the first time if it snows this year (we get about 12" yr in Richmond, Va). So I am really torn as to keep it or trade it in. (or sell to Carvana?) I would get a little better mpg with the truck and think the bed would be better for dump and Lowes trips. Wish I could keep both but can't.
Easy ... keep your BS.

Before I got my bs I was in the same boat as far as I really wanted the maverick first but after seeing one in person the size of the bed just doesn’t make it worth it to me. Let’s say you needed an 8 ft piece of lumber/pvc etc. the bronco you could push it up to the windshield at least in the maverick you’d have 4 ft hanging off the back. I mean idk if a typical shovel could lay flat 😂.
that’s with zero actual measuring or anything, just seemed so small. Plus my dog has the whole back of the bs instead of just a row in the back seat of a maverick.
just my 2 cents if it’s even worth that much 😂
I came here to say pretty much the same thing. The Maverick looks cool (as does the BS), but to me, it's utility as a pickup are pretty limited - I don't really think it can take much more than a BS, and has less capability AFAIC. The maverick seems more of a pickutte (hey, new word, whaddya think?), than a pickup. If you want a pickup, get a pickup: I don't really see a dilemma here. For utility and increased capability, I'm staying with my B.S.

Well a little Logic here. The Bronco is a nice outfit, I have the Big Bend with the 1.5 motor. It's great for now. Despite the problems encountered in the transition phase world-wide, electric is coming, hence that bodes well for the Maverick
The Maverick and Bronco Sport are built on the same C2 global platform, so any powertrain developed for either will work in both.

The decision is ultimately yours, of course. I had the same situation as you two years ago. I had considered the Bronco Sport originally, but when the Maverick was announced in 2021 I ordered an XLT 4wd, copilot 360+ and a tonneau. I wanted the 4cyl motor with its 250hp. However, just as in your situation, I was told the build would take about a year due to chip shortage. The price was great, but the wait was not, and I started looking at Bronco Sports again. I found a Big Bend that a dealer ordered that had everything I wanted and they gave me a good deal. I have not regretted my decision. 20k miles later and I still love it.

I considered the Maverick Hybrid when I upgraded from my OBX to current Badlands, but the lack of AWD was a deal breaker for me. If they ever come out with an AWD hybrid version, it would be compelling to me, but maybe by then they'll have a Hybrid BS with AWD!

Coming aboard for a little education as this has been an interesting thread to read.

We have both a BS BL and Ranger XLT. A superb combo to my mind. Excellent small utility vehicle and mileage with the BS (30mpg) and excellent small pickup performance with better than Ford average with the Ranger (20+ mpg local driving).

As far as the pickup choice went, never, ever considered the Maverick as a stablemate for the BS. Not to be a hater, but I find nothing appealing in the Maverick other than I do appreciate the Ranchero throwback vibe.

So here's my question: why is the Maverick so popular? (I realize this is a Bronco Sport forum....)

I had some interest in the Maverick because I don't need a larger pickup but again, the interior killed it for me. Especially at $36K+.

I sold my Ridgeline. Looked into the Maverick but I could never get past the interior. The BS interior is as cheap looking as I can go.
Wait, what??? the Maverick interior is..... how would marketing state this..... "more Spartan" than the BS ???

Cheap plastic door panels and console design with ugly coloring in the Maverick. The BS interior is just ok but far nicer than the Maverick.

I’m will be in your shoes Whenever my Maverick order actually gets built. I ordered the Mav because I like having the utility of an open bed pickup but don’t need the towing capability of a larger pickup anymore. I wanted the hybrid Mav for the great MPGs. I decided to go ahead and sell my Ridgeline and my wife and I would try out living with just one vehicle until the Mav got built. But when I went to my dealer to get my Ridgeline appraised, I saw what is now my BS Outerbanks in Oxford white and sorta fell in love with it. Had it for about a month and have put a little over 2,000 miles on it via a couple of longer road trips. I love it and can’t see myself giving it up when the Mav is built. So for now, I’m hoping my wife will be willing to trade in her Honda CRV so we can get the Mav and have the best of both worlds. And for what it’s worth I think the Outerbanks interior is not utilitarian. I think it’s pretty nice actually. But the interior of the Mav is definitely a notch below the OB interior.

I saw pics of the interior first and didn't really like the Maverick interior. When I saw loaded Lariat at a Ford dealer, It looked even worse.

I first wanted a Maverick when I was vehicle shopping, but they were few and far between. I specifically remember the details when looking that the Hybrid was offered with AWD. I was looking and looking to no avail until I spoke to a salesperson who informed it didn't come with AWD with the hybrid powertrain. That left a sour taste in my mouth, but I kept looking. I couldn't find a single maverick for under $40k, the markups were insane.

My local sales rep eventually called me back because I mentioned interest in a BS and said they had one. When I replied he said they had done some "modifications" to it and that it wasn't stock anymore. It came with dealer installed lift and wheels/tires. I loved the look and signed the papers. Somebody else tried to buy it while I was signing the papers on it. I now have 21,000 miles and enjoying every bit of it!

The Ranger is anything but small. It's the size the F150 use to be and the F150 is now huge.

Some people don't want to drive a huge truck everyday, and pay the premium price, just to have the utility of a bed when they need it.

The funny thing is, on this forum, the Badlands is all the rage because it's the only way to get the 2.0 engine. On the Maverick, it's the base motor. To get an AWD 2.0 Maverick XL, it's $27860 compared to $39985 for a BS Badlands. And if AWD isn't important to you you can get a FWD XL 2.0 for the whopping price of $24995. $14k less than the Badlands but with the same motor.

"But the Maverick doesn't have advanced 4x4." Even if you step up to the Maverick XLT Tremor with the advanced 4x4, it's still only $34275, Over $5k less than a Badlands.

Let’s say you needed an 8 ft piece of lumber/pvc etc. the bronco you could push it up to the windshield at least in the maverick you’d have 4 ft hanging off the back.
More like 2 feet off the tailgate.

In the end, these are 2 different types of vehicles to fit different needs. Get what you like and what suits your needs. They're both great.

Back to the OP which was talking about the hybrid. Can't beat the mileage. 😁

@M3H7363, great write-up. Thank you.

I love the look of the Bronco Sport, though I know many who simply can't stand it. Same, I guess, with the Maverick.

As far as the OP's question goes, I guess if overall utility and MPG are important the Maverick wins.

Cheers.
