After having my bronco sport to the dealers 3 times they say there is nothing wrong with the exhaust. The fumes in the cab are getting worse. I wonder if ford will reimburse me if I take it to an exhaust specialist since they can't find the problem. This has to be the worst vehicle I have ever bought new.

This is a safety issue. You can purchase a relatively inexpensive CO detector on Amazon. I would get one and keep it in your car. If the device alarms then take a video and show it to your dealership. Suggest to them that if they do not make appropriate repairs you will involve an attorney. Again, this is a safety issue; CO is a poison.

I just watched a video on this subject and it happened to be for a Ford, Expedition though instead of Bronco Sport. There was no issue at all with the exhaust and 3 other shops had found no issue with the exhaust. Turned out that it was the rear hatch not sealing. The aerodynamics of boxy SUV’s will draw exhaust fumes up around the back of the vehicle. If the seals are not doing their job, exhaust can get drawn into the cabin.

This may not be your problem but it is at least worth mentioning to the dealer/mechanic or digging into yourself.

Regardless of the cause (exhaust, bad door/hatch seals, etc.), exhaust fumes should not be entering the cabin. The dealership (and Ford) need to fix it.

I saw that video! And I saw another post here, or maybe Facebook, about the same thing.

That other post, the issue was exhaust clamps at first then a cracked catalytic convertor. Several others posted they also had a cracked cat. And someone else mentioned the rear hatch bumpers had been adjusted and was causing it to not seal properly.

If I had this issue and my dealer gave me the runaround I'd be calling Ford Corporate directly. No way this should be taken lightly from the dealership and brushed off.

I had the same problem. It started around 40000 miles. I mentioned the fumes when I had it in for an unrelated issue and they said they couldn't duplicate it. I think they blew it off because it wasn't the reason I had it there.
I took it to another nearby dealer and they gave me a horrible diagnosis and blamed it on my K&N air and cabin filters.
Finally, last week, I took it back to my original dealer. They diagnosed it with some sort of scope and found a cracked catalytic converter. The part arrived two days later and was replaced. Now the smell and noise is gone.
Not sure why there are several cracked cats on such new vehicles.

Yes I did mention that to the dealer the last time, they found nothing. But it only happens when the heat, ac, or defroster is on. When there is no climate control running I don't detect it.

Got one. It either doesn't work or where it's plugged in may not be picking it up. A tech I work with suggested the same thing.

Done did that yesterday. Gave me a case number, told me to take it to another dealer and call them when I get there.

Besides the rear gate seal I would have the dealer check the two louvers hidden behind the rear side panels below the windows in the cargo area. They are hard to get too but a body guy probably can very easily. These louvers are mechanical and vent to the outside by positive interior air pressure when you shut the door or drive with the windows down, have the AC on high, etc. Its possible one of them didn't close and exhaust gasses are drawn up inside. Might be a stretch but its worth checking.

Good post, as it is always good to rule out any possibility for dangerous fumes entering a vehicle.

Thanks for posting that tip.
