A couple days ago I test drove a 2023 4-door hardtop Bronco with automatic transmission. I had previously test driven a 2-door hard top with manual transmission, which was a fun drive, but small. I currently own a 2023 Big Bend Bronco Sport which I find is an almost ideal size as a daily driver.
I liked the full-size 4-door Bronco. Took it on the highway. Drove nicely. Base engine is more than enough power. Marine grade vinyl seats, drain plugs in the floor... super easy to hose out and clean when needed. Solid truck! Tons of space. Really like the removable hardtop. Audio system was decent as well. Great cabin. I liked pretty much everything about it.
The other side is I feel the Bronco Sport seats are a bit more comfortable. For me, I would say the full size Bronco is overkill as a daily driver, but it would also probably motivate me more to get outdoors more often to explore and camp / overland. I live in Northern Ontario (Canada) and there is a lot of access to nature. WIth the amount of snow we typically encounter in winter, the full-size Bronco is attractive. However, I probably wouldn't be tackling difficult terrain on a regular basis. And for the rest of the time, the full-size Bronco would be overkill as a daily driver, including the cost of ownership. Not to mention, the current economy and Ford's high financing rates of 8% in my market, I just couldn't justify spending $22,000 in interest to finance the purchase. If I was able to purchase outright in cash, that would be different.
If money were no object I'd own one of each. Or just eat the cost of purchase of the full-size and keep it on the road as a daily driver. But I'm too practical to spend that much on interest. If the market cools next year, perhaps I'd reconsider.
I have to say though, the test drive really made me appreciate what I have in the Sport... it’s more practical as a daily driver. I really enjoy it. Better fuel economy, easier to park. I’ve outfitted it pretty well. It's all-wheel drive is capable. The Sport is a lot less money.
