Any one try 255 65 17s on stock rims?

I have a Badlands with a 1 "lift and 245 65 17s. Plenty of room and rides great...but...you know the deal - always pushing the envelope. Anyone try a 255 65 17s on stock rims?

you will need spacers 2” so it will not rubbing with the spring seat , but it will be nice to see some pictures

As long as you don’t go off-road or make sharp turns, it should work just fine.

but I got to ask, why? I’m always confused when people are trying to gain an extra 1/4 of ground clearance. My eyecrometer isn’t good enough to tell when driving off road if I’m going to clear by 1/4 of an inch until after I scrape the bottom.

I had a 21 BL with 245/65/17 KO2's and currently have a 23 BL with Wildpeaks in the same size. To me it's the perfect size for a BS. Plenty of traction in all situations. I don't want a lift on my vehicle, never seen one that drove and rode as well as factory. If I need more clearance, I'll just buy a Bronco. Currently considering that, but it's so seldom I need more that it's difficult to justify the added cost.

The 255’s will likely rub at full lock, with or without a lift. There is a pinch weld at the back of the front wheel wells that limits the tire size. Some have gone to the extreme of cutting that flange but that is a questionable decision on a uni-body vehicle. You just don’t know what kind of structural changes you are making by cutting that flange.

100% agree with you that 245/65 is the best size for the BS. After I put on some BFG KO2’s in that size I very quickly realized that Ford should have made that the stock size tires. Of course that’s just my opinion…

How wide are the stock rims? That also limits how wide you can go.

False 255/75/17 will fit with no spacers.

255/75/17 is a 32” tire. How did you get past the 29.5-30” max tire size restriction?

Yes you are correct , it’s very tight fit, they are rubbing lightly in the covers

I think I will go for 255/7017 instead so it will not filling the space in winter time

I’m pretty sure the definition of “fit” or “tight fit” means in all operating conditions including lock to lock at full suspension travel. At least that’s my definition but maybe I’m the only one. Better if “fit” also allows space for snow and ice.

False 255/75/17 will fit with no spacers.

Did you have to trim pinch weld?

Yes. The pinch weld mod needs to be done with any tire over 30.5” with or without a lift. The design of the wheel well won’t allow. Best handling and best looking was the 255/75/17 in my opinion.
