So, I've narrowed my search down to wanting Borla on my 2.0 Badlands. I plan to order next week.

Now I need to decide if I want the S-type or ATAK version. Anyone done either one?

Borla claims 100% no drone in the cab at any speed. :) I don't mind a little rumble and grow in the cab, especially since I already have larger knobby tires, so I wouldn't be going from ulta quiet to loud, just a step up.

All I can say is that I have the Borla ATAK on my '18 F-150 2.7 EcoBoost and it is loud in a good way. High quality stainless steel system. Lots of rumble but no drone. Sounds awesome on a cold start. Not familiar with the S-type. Is that a step down from the ATAK?

The S version is a backed off version of the ATAK. The Touring is the calmest of them. I like the loud growl but I don’t know what it will actually sound like on a 2.0 vs a V8. Looking for someone who has put the S or ATAK on their Bronco.

I only see the S for the sport with 2.0 on Borla’s site. I think the ATAK is for full size broncos.

Oh bummer! I guess that’s my decision then. I wonder why? Maybe they couldn’t get it to tune right or something because the ATAK is smaller, so it should fit.

This is what the Borla ATAK sounds like for the 2.3L EcoBoost.

Don’t know. I put the Magnaflow on ours. It gives plenty of sound. I think the Borla S is even louder, so you won’t be disappointed with it.

What’s that obnoxious clicking after each throttle up? They all going to do that?

That's what enthusiasts call "crackles" or "pops." The EcoBoost engine's direct injection fuel injection system squirts fuel directly into the cylinder instead of into the intake port (port injection) or into the throttle body. In addition, the gas pedal is not mechanically connected to the throttle--it's connected to a potentiometer whose position is interpreted by the powertrain control module (PCM) as a "power demand." When you take your foot off the pedal the PCM does a couple of things. It closes the throttle (shuts off air to the engine), stops the flow of fuel, and shuts off the spark. But since the engine employs direct injection, there remains some unburnt fuel in one or more cylinders. This fuel is pushed into the exhaust system--because the engine is still turning--where it ignites. In short, the popping is the sound is the ignition of unburnt fuel expelled into the exhaust system when the driver takes their foot of the accelerator pedal. You don't hear it with the stock exhaust system because it's designed to mute those noises. A "performance" exhaust is designed to emphasize them.

As to whether they all do it, you can view a variety of exhaust systems for the EcoBoost Mustang at this link and decide for yourself.

Thanks for that explanation! I remember my corvette did that after the headers and CAI and my tuner guy was able to tune it out. Maybe I can have that done with the Bronco too. I remember before fixing it that everyone who drove with me always said “ what is that?!”

I have driven the Borla S for a week or two and yes, it's a little throaty and deep sound, but for me, it's too quiet! :( Even my wife said she could hardly hear it. I'm not sure what to do. I'm thinking of reaching out to the muffler shop and seeing if there can be options after installed. The Vibrant is way cheaper and a smaller muffler which might be louder, but I can't find any sound bytes of the Vibrant anywhere for the Sport. Anyone who has Vibrant can you tell me about it? I wish that Corsa or Borla ATAK fit the Bronco Sport.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....whatever you do....keep the OEM resonator in the middle. It does ZERO to hinder performance, as its basically a straight shot at WOT. And its the MAIN THING that keeps our 4 banger from sounding like a cold start, rusty tractor engine, when we start it up. Replace the mufflers, as you will. But keep the resonator.

I purchased the Borla S type for my Mustang. It had me replace the resonator with a Y pipe. It was just too droney at low rpm. I ended up going back and putting a Borla resonator in, and now the sound is perfect. Quiet when the engine is idling, and loud enought to turn peoples heads when I WOT it.

A tune is a better bang for the buck than any of the exhaust options for the BS.
I'd rather have the power instead of noise.

Hmmm, a bowl of rice crispies sounds good.
