I’ve got a 2022 Bronco Sport. The steering wheel controls for next/previous song sometimes work for CarPlay, and sometimes don’t. The next/previous buttons on the dash seem to work consistently. I primarily use Pandora for music.

I haven’t found a common combination of startup procedures that cause the problem. Has anyone else experienced this? What’s the fix?

TIA!

What version of Sync are you running?

What is the iOS version you currently have installed on your iPhone?

What brand is the USB cable you are utilizing in your vehicle?

Are you plugging in the USB cable in the area underneath the climate controls?

Are you using the USB-A or USB-C port?

Are you having the same issues with Apple Music, Podcasts, or any other streaming app?

I only use Apple Music but don't have any issues. I stopped using Pandora a long time ago. I forget why but I didn't like something about how it worked with streaming in the car.

Sync v3 - I can’t run v4 can I? If so, can you point me to how?

IOS v 16.5.1 (c)

I’m plugging I to the usb-c port under the climate controls. I don’t know what brand. The cable is.

Had the issue with Apple Music as well. I don’t use any other streaming app.

Ok. I was just trying to rule out with it being Pandora.

I'm using an Anker cable, USB-A to Lightning. I've also used an Apple USB-C to Lightning but I keep that one in the house usually.

Does this happen with other iPhones or other cables?

What build number of Sync? 22251?

Current version of iOS is 16.6
You might try updating your iPhone.

Sync 4 is a different hardware system. You are using a Sync 3 system.

Sync is build 21194_product, which appears to be outdated. Every time I ask synch to update, it says it’s already up-to-date. Is there a way to force it?

In my opinion, you don’t want to force the update from 21194 to 22251. 21194 is fairly stable while many have Sync issues with 22251. Wait for Ford’s update after 22251 (might be 23088 but we don’t know yet and is not yet available). Read more here:

My advice to anyone is to turn off automatic updates in the vehicle settings.

Use the ford sync website and a USB device to manually apply map and sync updates. Then you can wait and see what issues develop and also avoid any wi-fi or speed issues when downloading updates.

^^ that’s what I do as well … the one downside… have to remember to apply updates. Also, a Ford employee said the automatic updates can install more than just Sync updates (for other modules besides APIM and not including Nav of course)

I haven't used a USB device in maybe over a decade. I think the one I had was 128 MB.

It’s way faster and more convenient to use a USB Device to install Sync updates and Nav updates for those Bronco Sports with Ford’s Nav system.

i bought this one for $23.85 (free shipping).

I'll look to pick one up.

Just to make sure, for now, there's not a Sync update I want to apply, correct? I don't use the built in SatNav so I can wait a little on that one.

No new Sync update last time I looked a week or so ago and Ford says now there is no ETA for the Sync update (for bronco sport at least). The current version on the Ford website is:

SYNC 3, Software Version: 3.4 Build 22251 PRODUCT

22251 is the Build with issues reported here:
