I think it’s a pretty neutral car for all. I realize certain cars can project an image, even an unintended one. Heck my Dad thought the latest escape is ā€˜a car for senior ladies like your Mom’. But I think our informal thread proved that guys & gals alike, and of all ages, enjoy the Sport.

Now what I am worried about is having to tell everybody I didn’t buy the ā€˜real’ Bronco. I already have to tell people I didn’t order the ā€˜real’ one. The Sport just suits my needs better & there’s nothing wrong with that too.

Cars are designed with target markets in mind. The first thing an automaker considers when developing a new model is, "who is this car for?" Ford may have perceived that there was a demographic who wasn't being served by other automaker's offerings. If this demographic includes women, then that's just a business decision. Nothing wrong with understanding your customer.

I can attest that the BS appeals to women. When I first got my BS, people would stop me and ask about it. At least half of those people were women. About half of the other drivers I see in Bronco Sports are women. Also, I see a lot of women driving Camaros and Jeep Wranglers. Does that make those "chick cars?"

If people think the BS is a "chick car" because it doesn't have impractical 35" tires and a 350 HP engine, then that's fine with me. I'm a man who drives a "chick car" and I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks. Some consider the Mazda Miata to be a "chick car". I've owned two, despite the fact that I'm 6'3". I bought them because they are fun as heck to drive.

There's a stereotype that Subarus are "lesbian cars". In fact, this is 100% true. Subaru saw a population that wasn't being served, and they marketed to them. They were extremely successful. Here's the fascinating story behind it: https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/06/how-subarus-came-to-be-seen-as-cars-for-lesbians/488042/

Hmm… very good point. You’re right too, all you have to do is look at Ford’s marketing for the BS. Who they envision as the target customer is pretty plain to see. There’s no bias for gender here. There is definitely a young age bias, I’m sure their modeling customers are young enough to be my kids & some of y’all’s grandkids. But as the old adage goes too, you can’t sell an old person’s car to someone young. But young people’s cars? Often popular with the old folks too.

Contrast with marketing for the other end of the spectrum platform shared car. The people using the Corsair, though still young, are at least closer to my age. Obviously the way the car is being used is totally different, in fact this is closer to how I’ll use my BS than the way they show it being used. Thanks for hte interesting thoughts on marketing tonight!

Does not matter if people say chick car, not a real Bronco, its an Escape ect ect ect. They can have their opinion either way don't matter to me. I don't buy vehicles worrying about if someone approves or not. I do my own thing and what others say or think sure what ever not a problem.

Also, I see a lot of women driving Camaros
In high school there was a whole clique of "Camaro girls." Some rich daddies in that city too.

I never looked at the BS in a gender defining way. It has a cool looking, off-roadie kind of feel about it. Imho, anyone could feel the same way about it, male or female. I personally enjoy every minute I'm behind the wheel of mine, and my wife does too.

hmm
?ā€ā™‚ Do we need our vehicles to reflect our genders? Or just buy based on what looks good and has the desired functionality?

This comes from someone who doesn't feel the need to impress others with material objects, mind you...
