I recently installed ceramic pads on my Ford F150, as I no longer tow with it. In the month I've been driving it with these new pads, no brake dust at all.

Since the day I purchased my front breaks have a lot of dust!! I said something to the dealer and they said oh its new its nothing to worry about . Well I have had it for a little over a year and its still the same black dust it looks very bad and is not normal .
I HATE that about my BSBB. Been doing it since day 1. Drives me nuts Even entry level ceramic pads will help.

I've had my Badlands over year and half and no dust and I'm not one that washes my car every week. Maybe the grey wheels hide it better than others.

Don't touch your wheels or you will have one clean stripe where you finger touched!

I've read here that BB's with the adaptive cruise pkg have a different braking system and the dust isn't bad at all. Maybe someone can elaborate. My OBX dust is actually surprisingly low and I have the adaptive cruise pkg.

Those with adaptive cruise were not subject to the recall that required replacement of the front brakes with higher-friction alternatives.

You do not have lane centering. You have lane keeping.

Lane centering is only available with Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+

Lane centering along adaptive cruise control will give you a form of self driving.

Lane keeping will just bounce you back and forth trying to keep you in a marked lane.

The reason I asked, your vehicle has vacuum assist power brakes. Ford issued a recall because if the power brake assist were to fail, the driver may not be able to stop the vehicle in a predetermined distance. The front brake pads were changed out to offer additional friction when applying. The result is more brake dust.

Vehicles with Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ have an electric brake assist. Vehicles with this unit were never recalled for brake issues.[b/]

Ok, I’ll bite.

So I wiped across two large sections. No excessive brake dust. I’ve owned many cars that were really bad, but this isn’t one of them. Actually even cleaner than I expected since I’m not one that obsesses over a shiny car and it doesn’t get bathed often.

Not sure why mine isn’t bad. I do not have adaptive cruise control. I am pretty heavy on the pedals, but that’s been a constant over my life of driving.

I have a 2022 BB and had the same issue dark brown dust and tons of it. I think Ford uses crappy brake pads on their new vehicles. I just had to replace them at only 16K and I have never with any vehicle I have ever owned had the brakes go so quickly. The dealer wanted over 1k the price was crazy so I found another place. They replaced them with regular non ceramic pads and the dust is minimal now. The price was about half.
I think it's like the printer injet cartridge game. They put the small ones in when they make them so you have to buy new ones more quickly.
It's not cool.

So after nearly a year after my last comment, my results seem to be the same. Very little brake dust if any on any of the wheels. According to my driving assistant (wife) I wait too long before I brake. Maybe that’s the secret.

I’ve always thought changing brake pads was the easiest maintanance item other than changing the air filter so I’ve never been light on the wide pedal.

Powerstop sells a kit (on Amazon) with drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads front & rear (if I'm not mistaken) for about $250 or so. I've used their kits on my 16 Focus and 18 EcoSport and plan to do the same when these wear out on my 21 BB

My 2022 OBX has a bad issue with brake dust. But I see other vehicles , including other BS and Escapes, even Mavericks that don't seem to have the problem. Was this confined to BS built at a specific time? MY OBX was built late December 2021, at the height of supply line issues. Is it possible Ford got a batch of crappy brake pads from a specific supplier that is causing the problem? Does anyone with a newer BS have this issue? If I just replace the pads, with OEM, will that reduce the problem? Assuming that parts stock is not the same batch.
On the other hand, I don't have the squeal noise when reversing.

One of the components in your brake system is a called a brake booster. It amplifies the hydraulic pressure in the lines so the brake calipers can really get a bite. When you lose the brake booster the amount of hydraulic pressure going to the calipers is greatly reduced, the pads don't squeeze as hard, and it takes more distance to stop the car. The NHTSA requires manufacturers to test cars with a failed brake booster, and sets a spec for stopping distance.

Despite meeting the spec before starting production, random testing during early production runs found that some Bronco Sports were not meeting NHTSA specs for stopping distance with a brake booster failure. Like you, I suspect supply chain disruptions. It's my speculation that some time into production the brake pads used during initial testing became unavailable, and Ford switched to another supplier. The replacement pads were not able to provide enough friction during a failed booster scenario and resulted in a failure to meet the spec. Ford had to find a higher-friction pad in order to continue production, and the highest friction pads tend to produce a great deal of brake dust.

You can almost certainly eliminate your brake dust issue by changing pads, but how that will affect your overall braking performance is anyone's guess. Do your homework...
