It's always fun to look back and see how much technology has advanced. Thanks for sharing.

This almost made me miss my old T-Birds. Those things were tanks and probably saw a lot more "off-road" use than many Broncos! ?

That Mondeo/Contour had a v6 and that was the first time Ford used the ST badge in EU. Speaking of which, has a Ford world car ever been a success in US? Escort, Fiesta, EcoSport? Successful models around the world brought to US just for Americans to buy the F150 anyways.

Pretty sure the Escort and it’s replacement, the Focus have been successes here. The Escort’s first generation sold very well compared to the following generations when it stopped being based on the Euro Escort. The Fusion in it’s second generation did a good job too and that was based on the Mondeo. Same with the third generation Escape being based on the second gen Kuga. I still see a lot of Escapes and Fusions along with Focuses from time to time.

I wonder if Ford hadn’t had the Escort trail off from it’s European roots by becoming a Mazda, if it would’ve still saw better sales. I mean the European Escort is a well regarded nameplate over there with it’s performance trims like the Cosworth.

It was a lot of money at that time. Bought it at a Labor day sale, 1994. I think it had 1.9% interest from Ford.

The original window sticker attached.

I’m always amazed at how recent 30 years ago was yet how far too. We’ve come a long way indeed. Anybody try driving a 90s car in modern traffic? I had this 1993 Explorer up until the pandemic when the transmission fell out of it. Deemed uneconomic to repair, perhaps I still should’ve fixed it up.

Nothing seemed particularly out of date even on a 25+yo car at the time. An aftermarket stereo would’ve brought infotainment up to date, which would’ve been fitting in with the era when aftermarket stereos were common.

Yet it was most certainly outdated in every way possible. The biggest thing I noticed is the lack of power. A 4.0 V6 would be a pretty large engine nowadays just going off displacement, yet it made less power than entry level economy cars today. All while getting what we would consider full size truck mileage. Got me through a period in life though that I needed it to so I can’t complain about that.

A bit more than 30 years but quite an amazing span of time:

Kitty Hawk, heavier than air, powered and controlled aircraft, first flight December 17, 1903

Ingenuity helicopter first flight April 19, 2021 on Mars … carried a tiny piece of fabric from the Wright Kitty Hawk aircraft tucked under Ingenuity's solar panel

Let's go back 10 more years. 1984. My '84 20th Anniversary Mustang GT convertible with it's 5.0 4 barrel T5 makes 175 hp and 240 lb-ft. My recent Bronco Sport purchase would run rings around it with just 1.5L, gets substantially better fuel economy and the crazy part, handles better.

It's amazing to look back, my 1977 Trans Am had a 400 cu in engine that had a whopping 180 hp. In 1967 that engine produced 360 hp. The BS BL with the 2.0L EB is 250 hp, engine technology has come a long way.

I owned a 1984 Chrysler Laser with the 2.2L turbo. It made less power than the 5.0L Mustangs of the era--around 150 hp and 170 lb ft of torque--but the car only weighed a bit over 2500 lbs, so it easily outran my friend's Mustang. I also regularly dusted a work colleague's Porsche 944, but my acceleration advantage was lost against the Porsche as soon as we got in the twisties.
