I have had sync 3 on some vehicles and sync4 on two. I would not recommend sync4 for anything. Ford cannot leave it alone and is constantly making changes. They seem to make worse every time.

Having a job 1 2021 F150, I went through all the growing pains of Sync 4 and was the guinea pig for Ford's OTA process. I know first-hand the issues you are referring to. However, my APIM is coming with a rather recent and stable version of Sync 4. Also, just because I swap in a Sync 4 APIM, I still will not be able to get OTA updates for it as Ford's servers do not recognize it as a Sync 4 vehicle. Eithe way, every module on my BS is up to date because I did it myself with FDRS.

The biggest issue will be incompatibilities between the Sync 4 APIM and the GWM firmware which won't take into account that the APIM has Sync 4. Once I get the APIM in there, it will be a matter of testing every function in the vehicle to see what works and what needs to be fine-tuned. I don't expect it to be perfect right out of the gate. Infotainment does not have a 21-24 BS to test this on, so that is going to fall on me working with them to iron out the wrinkles.

I really enjoy this kinda stuff, so I lend myself out for these projects any time I get a chance to. I've been enrolled in Ford's Early Access program for years, too (although they never send me anything).

Hats off to you for doing this. Your capabilities are far beyond what I can tackle.

Everything I know about this stuff, I learned from having to deal with issues my 2021 F150 had that the dealer was not able to resolve. While there are many things I feel comfortable doing and helping others do, this project will require knowledge that goes beyond the scope of the things I know how to do. The tech team from Infotainent will remote into my laptop once I swap the APIM in to get everything sorted out. The APIM is coming programmed specifically for my VIN, so hopefully it won't require a lot to get it right, but I have full confidence in Jesse and them.

Even with their help, I'd turn it into a shit sandwhich in 2 minutes.

Looks like an exciting upgrade!

I normally would jump on this but I have to ask..

Besides wireless CarPlay, what would I be gaining? I'm not a fan of wireless right now. And I almost exclusively use CarPlay.
