Mark, how is acceleration when passing on the highway? 55 mph and above.
it is fine with the 1.5. I have to pass at 70mph all the time on my way to work. it passes better than my fusion with the big 2.5L 4cy did. my buddy has a fusion hybrid and I can pull away from him on the highway but he pulls away from me off the lights.

Can confirm. I have no issues passing vehicles on the highway or merging into high-speed traffic safely. None.

I went to an eCVT in my 2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid, and it took me a while to wrap my head around not feeling the vehicle shifting and that this was normal. I drove it for 5 years, and now I'm getting used to my BB and feeling the shift points again. If the Fusion wasn't so awful in the winters I'd probably have kept that car, never put a dime into it, and it ran like a top and gave me 43 MPG. I was impressed with the transmission.

My work unit is a 2025 Explorer Police Interceptor. It's a hybrid, and I think it has the 3.3L V6. Coming from the Durangos and Chargers to these Explorers has been really disappointing. You hit the gas, and the car does very little. I'm not sure why they are so underpowered for Police Cars.
Seems odd for the police Explorer. My daughter has a 2024 st. That vehicle is plenty quick. 3.0 twin turbo @400 hp.

It's a great mystery; everyone in my dept makes fun of it. I'm not sure if it's the hybrid components not being tuned for a pursuit vehicle, and I probably just made that up like it could be a real thing, I'm too dumb to be a mechanic :).

We should only have these for a few years. The kids on the job nowadays total cars like crazy, and everyone else drives them like rental cars, so they get trashed pretty fast, and NY is pushing for full EV for emergency vehicles, but I am long past my 20 years and will be long retired when they get those cars.

Yeah, I’m long retired . . . yay! Can’t speak from personal experience, but I think the CA Explorers aren’t hybrid — YET, and everyone seems to be very happy with their performance out here.

Congratulations on your up coming retirement. I’m sure you deserve it.

Thanks, I was going to go last January but they keep floating that we're going to get 60th's (weird union contract jargon, yes) so I've been strung along like a donkey chasing a carrot waiting. I'll tap out in 2026, though for sure, 60th's or not! :D

Yup, got OTJ injury, tried to hold out ’til new contract (nice raise and better retirement numbers) — city politely told me to “pound sand” and cancelled me 2 months prior to new contract “Bennie’s”.

Luckily for us, the AZ State retirement system for LEO's had the wife retirement eligible for the last several years. With the way things have gotten in the Sheriff's Office the last few years, she finally had enough and punched out at the end of last month. First retirement check this Monday!

My wife could've held on for the next bump, but I just asked her how many "next bumps" was she expecting to hold on for? The way her retirement's calculated, it would've been maybe an extra $50 a month. Not worth the grief. We have a life to move on with.

It's how they get you. Talking with the NYS retirement system, if I keep working, I'll basically be working for like 30,000 a year. Time to move on to bigger and more fun things!

Sorry for the hijack! My 1.5L got me home safe, so I'm still happy with it. ;)

To all you LE guys, gals and spouses, as much crap as you hear from the crazy minority and media, know that the vast majority of Americans are behind you one hundred percent and appreciate all you do, and what you have gone through in recent years is disgraceful. Stay safe.

I wanted to circle back to this. My truck has been at the dealer for well over a week now getting the transmission rebuilt (maybe replaced; still not sure). Under 24k miles on my truck. 2021 Job 1 F150 problems. IYKYK. Not complaining........I will take new transmission with a smile. I plan on keeping my truck a while.

Point of this is, by coincidence, my loaner is a 2025 BS Big Bend with the 1.5L engine., After driving it for a week and FWIW, I retract me statement about hating it. I don't love it.......but I don't hate it either.
It must be the 10 speed they had issues with one of the Clutch Drums in those 10 speeds that was supposed to be updated in 2022 or 2023 IIRC.

Those Explorer ST are very impressive IIRC one of them on YT with a tune and other mods is like 600-700 Horsepower and runs 10's in the 1/4 Mile they do run 13's stock in the 1/4 Mile which is still pretty impressive.

Yup......exactly that. Got the tranny rebuilt with the new CDF drum, a new valve body and a few other components. The job 1 2021 trucks were the best and the worse. None of the post-COVID option deletes and shortcuts. But, we were the guinea pigs for Sync 4, Bluecruise, OTA's and a bunch of other stuff Ford was just getting into. The $600 I spent on the cable to be able to use FDRS was some of the best money I have ever spent.

I'm happy to be back in my 12mpg tank. The fuel economy is the one thing I will miss about the 1.5L BS. I used about $10 worth of fuel in the 5 days I had it. That is surreal to me. 🤣

I had a 2021 F-150 with the 3.5 Eco Boost and 10 speed for a little over 2 years but not many Miles and the 10 speed in it was fine. But My Brother had a 2020 F-150 with the 3.5 Eco Boost and the 10 speed was a POS. He said many times when cold he would back out of His driveway put it in Drive and it wouldn't want to move for a few seconds or more. He has a 2023 now with the 3.5 Eco Boost and 10 speed and the transmission is fine but He has a noise in the rear end that He got a Recall for IIRC. He has also had Power Window switch problems that I think He needs a New Window Switch we shall see if they change that He has an appointment on Thursday for that problem.
