So I was in market for BS BB, wanted the Area 51 but the one in transit to dealership was spoken for (I'm assuming there was deposit on it). They had same vehicle just carbonized gray on the lot and we talked leasing but I ultimately didn't pull the trigger. I recently was pre-approved through my bank and the Area 51 that was previously spoken for is now available.

I talked to the guy at the dealership today and he said they wouldn't be accepting outside financing on this vehicle...doesn't make sense to me and feel like they are playing hard ball trying to push me towards Ford credit or possibly leasing through them.

Is this typical or are they giving me the run around, any thoughts on how I should proceed? This is the vehicle I want. Also, I qualify for X-plan pricing which they will only take on orders, which is understandable....but not accepting outside financing doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks for any help!
That is kind of unethical to force you to use Ford Credit. I did use Ford Credit for our OB because they did a zero interest loan.

Just got off the phone with finance guy, they dropped another $400 off out the door price but it still isn't where I want to be..I brought up just refinancing through my bank after I buy the car and he said he recommends waiting 6 months?? he also stated his manager is okay with excepting outside financing but the the price would be 5k over sticker price to "make up for the added risk"
I call Bulls*** on this. What added "risk"? The bank is the one with all the risk. They are trying to force you into a situation that benefits them and only them. I would walk away from this "deal". They will probably abscond with your FordPass points as well, giving some BS excuse that the points have to cover the reduced price.

Dealerships make money on financing, so it's totally up to dealerships if they allow outside financing or not. If you really want this particular vehicle, probably worth seeing what rates/terms they can get you. Alternatively, you can initially finance through them and then refinance through your own financing as soon as possible.
We went with Ford Credit and got 1.9% for 60 months

Does purchasing a Ford alone get you FordPass points? Checking so I can reach out and make the proper people aware. Thanks

I’m glad you walked away and I hope Ford checks into this dealership.

Meanwhile, I’d recommend you call or stop by some ā€œlocalā€ dealerships and get lucky like I did. I called 5 dealerships and told them what I was interested in and I got lucky with one 60 miles away. They said they had one coming. I picked up my ā€˜22 Area 51 outer banks Friday. They charged the MSRP, I handed them my check from the credit union, signed a bunch of papers, then drove away. It really should be that simple.

Edit: and to make sure MSRP was legit, I did a build on the Ford site. Exact to the dollar.
So I'll update at the end of the week hopefully, but a lot has changed since last week. It'll be a bit of a lengthy post but I'll try to stick to the point. Bottom line right now is that it shouldn't be this ridiculous to purchase a vehicle, and I'm glad it sounds like Ford is cracking down on this. I'll get you guys up to speed soon

I talked with my trusted Ford guys and here is what they said.

Regarding MSRP, it is just that, a suggested price. Competitive dealerships do not go over it because it can damage them long term as far as reputation. But a dealership is allowed to do so.

Regarding forcing you to take their credit or it is a different price, it is at a minimum unethical and against proper Ford dealership conduct and, in Illinois, the attorney general would most likely consider it illegal.

They then added that they don’t like talking bad about other Ford dealerships but they strongly recommend you avoid this one. They worry the misconduct is only beginning.

The factories are supposedly aware of dealers adjusting vehicle prices to "market value" and do not condone the practice.

I heard a Nissan commercial on the radio the other day and it said dealers set the actual price.

Other than not patronizing a dealer that promotes added markup or reporting such practices to the BBB or some other consumer agency there isn't much else you can do.

You could probably write bad reviews on Yelp and the Ford.com site as dealers do want good reviews.

Yeah I didn't ask why the deal didn't go through, I did just get off the phone with the manager at the dealership. He reiterated what the salesman told me as far not accepting outside financing, he did say that I obviously had the option of refinancing with my bank after going with Ford credit. I told him my interest rate with my bank and his exact reply was "wow that's an aggressive interest rate" ???

I'll look into the Pa laws...I bank with Navy Fed so I guess I can reach out to them and see what they say
We bank with Navy Fed and USAA. Their auto financing processes are amazing. Went with NFCU for the BS as they had a better rate by .25%. Was going to use them for my Colorado, but the dealer came back with a really great offer through one of their lenders.

That’s a great rate! I got 4.9% for 60 months , which I think is the current rate.
for anyone getting forced by the dealer to use FoMo credit or another lender by the dealer. Just accept the rate and then refinance at a lower rate. Typically, there’s no prepayment penalty.

So, what happened?
Haha sorry for the delay every one ??so I think we left off last with the dealerships BS offer and then telling me they did everything they could. So I was set on going elsewhere or even looking at other vehicles. A day or 2 after I last spoke with the dealership I decided to reach out to their sister dealership with 2 simple questions....are you selling the BS at MSRP and are you accepting outside financing. She answered yes to both immediately so I decided to take a trip in. Test drove again which I didn't mind, white Bronco which was nice but not a huge fan of (except for that one posted on the forum recently with the red white and blue lettering!). I inquired about the Area 51 and Cactus Gray in transit to dealership I had all ready spoken to...they said they would ask and they came back with A51 has a buyer (which I assumed was ME!) and the CG had some one currently putting a deposit down. So while I'm at the dealership inquiring about the vehicles in transit, the salesman I was dealing with at the other dealership calls me, I ignore, he texts me to give him a call, I step out and make a call and he tells me the last price we spoke of they can do just a little better on but I would have to make the deposit on it and basically begged me to give him all 5 stars on his review because there have been some bad ones in the past that are holding up promotions. I tell him I'll give him a call within the hour. I tell the dealership I'm at that I'm not set on the white Bronco and to let me know about the other colors coming in. On the way home I text the original salesman stating that I put a deposit on a Subaru that night. He asks me what they can do for me to do business with them....I say MSRP and use my own financing.....and magically all of a sudden that's completely fine! Oh and the whole "hook me a up with a great review blah blah blah". I agree I'll hook him up with a great review ? and tell him I'll be in to put the deposit down. I also asked about the dealer add ons would be sold with the vehicle without any upcharge and he agreed to throw in the all weather mats as well as the seat back mats but not the wheel lock lugs, which didn't bother me. It still bugged me that I would be purchasing from this dealership, I would have rather went through their sister dealership, but I didn't know if cluing every one in on the situation would blow up the deal.

Sorry for the long winded response, I picked up my 22 BS BB A51 with convenience and tow this morning. Sat through the warranty rant to which I told the finance guy I'll run it by my wife (I'm not married) and get back to him.
I'm really happy with that BS, I'm def going to enjoy it, but the experience just sucked. Like I've said before, buying a car should be for the most part enjoyable and I can't say this truly was. Did playing one dealership against their sister dealership kinda feel good? YES! but honestly that second dealership deserved the sale more. And now I'm torn on whether or not I give this guy a decent review....the manager did come out for the post sale pic and stated that he was the one that sets prices and that he took some of what I said into consideration and wouldn't be selling vehicles over MSRP unless they were specialty vehicles....

All in all I'm glad I got the car I wanted, I was stuck at work because of the wind here on the east coast and couldn't get to the dealership until today. The salesman said people wouldn't stop asking about it for the 2-3 days it sat!

Glad this part is over, now to get a damn engine cover and possibly the hood sound deadening material!

If you read all this you're absolutely insane. Hope every one enjoyed their Monday, hopefully off of work and enjoying some nice weather!
