CARPLAY IOS 26

Anyone tried the IOS 26 beta with Carplay yet? It is supposed to be a game changer. The final version is expected to be released in September.

I have used it for a few days. I can't say that I have found a whole lot different, other than some appearance changes. That said, I haven't really dug in and looked for new things either.

Not a game change for bronco sport, some minor updates including the new wallpaper colors, icon mods (I’m on iOS 26 Beta 4). Also there is this:

“Apple is supporting video in CarPlay for the first time with iOS 26, although car makers will need to enable support”

I don’t know if that would work in ‘21-24 Bronco Sports with Sync 3.4 (or 2025s Sync 4)

Really don’t use it, tbh. Unless I have a specific need only supported by CarPlay, I keep it on the default Ford screen. I’ll give OnX a go in the next couple weeks when the BS gets its inaugural trail run.

I've been testing every iOS 26 developer beta and I've had no issues with '25 BS Sync iV CarPlay

I have and I love it. My Ranger had SYNC 3 and an 8" screen. My Bronco Sport has SYNC 4 and a 12.3" screen, and trades wireless CarPlay for messy wires. These differences, along with iOS 26 is a game changer for the entire experience. With iOS 26, a lot of the intrusive alerts (like incoming phone calls) no longer hijack the entire screen - it's just a little pop-up notice bottom, center on the screen. iOS 26 also gives you a Widget screen (swipe L to R from the dashboard screen) to see THREE separate stacks of widgets.

You can also pin text message threads to the top of the messages screen, and there are new options for icon settings (light, dark, clear) and new backgrounds.

Well, my IPhone and one of my IPads showed that IOS 26 was ready for installation. But both of them are showing extreme installation times. My IPhone seems to be stuck at 4 minutes remaining for installation while the IPad is showing 11 hours for the download. My guess is that Apple did not anticipate the demand on its servers from this update.

There are reports of this behavior across the Apple forums that I frequent. I know a lot of people are upgrading, but that happens every year without this kind of stuff. Also, there's been a good amount of general weirdness all along with the iOS 26 betas - nothing specific, just plenty of inconsistency between different user experiences. Patience is the key.
