I have A 2022 bronco sport big bend that has around 13500 miles. I love the look of the car, but I have had some issues since purchasing it a few months ago. Admittedly I was hesitant to make this post as I am the furthest thing from a "car guy" as possible. I know about as little as possible when it comes to cars. If anyone else has experienced any of these issues and had them resolved if you could share what corrected the issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • It feels like the car is skipping or as some people on here have mentioned "bucking" at residential speeds. I had a Jeep grand Cherokee prior to owning this and have never felt this sensation in any other car I've ever driven (including other broncos). I have brought it into the dealer a couple of times, and they have not found any issues with it. The second and most recent time I brought it in, I had a road test with a nice technician who mentioned the broncos have transmission issues, but they couldn't seem to confirm the issue with mine

  • The car also grinds and makes a very loud noise when breaking downhill which the tech told me is "normal" for these cars. The first time I brought it in they replaced the front brakes and rotors and found that the brakes and rotors were "overheated and glazed with heat marks. Due to heat marks there was a chatter after cutting rotors and after several attempt the rotors below spec"-Dealer report. I find it somewhat hard to believe that is a normal noise for a car that is 10 years newer than my last car that had never made that noise/feeling. I have also never experienced this in any other car I've ever been in/driven... Maybe its luck I've never experienced it before. Nonetheless I am curious to see if others have had this issue and if it is a normal thing I will try and avoid hills.

  • On the highway the car has been pulling, mostly to the left. They verified this and said they did an alignment (I have no reason to believe they didn't) but I still feel the car pulling.

  • There is a rattle behind the steering wheel that the tech heard when we did a road test, but they did not include anything about it in a report.

  • Sometimes when I go from reverse to park the car shakes and makes a very pronounced movement (I am fully stopped when switching). This does not always happen, but again I have never experienced it in any other car I've been in.

I love the car and want to have it for the next 10 years at least and want to make sure it will hold up. The brake noise and grinding scares me the most. The last thing I want to do is ignore it and have one of these problems impact another part of the vehicle and make for a bigger issue down the road. The sales and service department are both great. I know they want what is best for their customers. The last thing I want to be is a thorn in the service departments side. AS I mentioned earlier the only other car, I owned I had for 10 years and only brought it back to the dealer once. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. (Sorry for the ramble)

Hi Dave, I have a 2022 Badlands with 15k miles and have none of the issues you are referring too. I’m assuming you purchased this used. Was there a Carfax supplied? My brother-in-law has a 22 Big Bend with 40k miles and no issues either.

Yea I got it used, and nothing similiar to these concerns were on the carfax. I’m glad to hear it’s nothing you have dealt with, hopefully I can get it fixed and leave these issues in the past

You may also want to consider the Ford ESP extended warranty, if the Ford ESP new vehicle extended warranty cannot be purchased there is the Ford ESP used vehicle extended warranty choice.

Granger Ford, Flood Ford and Zeigler Ford can all be comparison shopped and with available online coupons/discounts are typically competitive. Here’s some links to get started:

Regarding the residential speed bucking I have a 24 Badlands which has the 2.0L engine so may not be exactly the same situation. I also have a 2019 Edge and 2020 Escape both with the same engine and 8F35 transmission. On all 3 vehicles I have experienced the surging and bucking when driving from my house in the neighborhood until the transmission warms up and the surging/bucking goes away. It happens around 20 mph. It is apparently a characteristic of the transmission and the dealer has said there is nothing more that they can do. In the past they refreshed the transmission software. On the 24 BS so far it has only happened when the outside temperatures reach up 90's. My BS is in a garage where temperatures will be higher than the outside temperatures. If your issue happens more than something like my situation than I would talk to the dealer as maybe there is something else going on. Also I do not think that every vehicle has this issue as will probably be confirmed by others here on the forum but having it on all 3 of my vehicles and a search of the internet shows it is a common issue. There are some quirks that I just live with.

Rattle drive me crazy and as far as the rattle behind the steering wheel I have experienced this with a loaner that I had. In my case I reached behind the steering wheel where it comes out of the dash. There is a plastic material type of cover over the steering column that is there to cover the opening where the steering column comes out of the dashboard. In my case it turned out the cover was rubbing against the surrounding hard plastic dash parts and pushing it away from the hard plastic solved the rattle. Just a possible solution.

2022 big bend at just under 15k here bought new and the “bucking” is definitely not you being crazy. I can’t stand it lol. The interesting thing is the few times I’ve had to disconnect the battery, when the computer resets and has to “relearn” my driving style, it shifts like a dream. Than always goes back to literally making everyone’s heads jolt forward and back when floating around 20-35mph.. Les Schwab does a free alignment check if u wanted a second opinion ?

Hey there. I would like to take a closer look at your Bronco concerns on my end. To get things started, can you please send over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage?

22 Big Bend here, 81000km and other than the usual maintenance and issued recalls, I haven't had any issues such as that. I would suggest you check with your dealership to see if all the TSBs, recalls and CSP issues have been addressed as I think some of the issues you are experiencing must be related to those.

Several have posted similar symptoms at slow speeds. I believe this has been attributed to the cylinder deactivation system. It seems the engines in some cars do not respond as smoothly as others when one of the cylinders deactivates.

You should be concerned about the brakes. This is one of your car's most important safety systems, and you shouldn't let it ride. Same for the alignment. These are fixable issues.

You'll have to be more specific about the rattles. Same for the "shaking" when you shift into reverse. Rattles can be anything from loose interior trim to something coming loose in the suspension. Does the rattle sound like plastic or metal? Is it more of a ticking or a clanking? Pay attention and look for vibration associated with the noise. If there's no vibration then it's most likely not a significant concern. It's normal for there to be a slight lurch when shifting from drive to reverse, but I'm not familiar with any "shaking" related to that function. Can you be more specific?

Broncos by nature, buck, shake and rattle. otherwise Ford would have called it a “Docile Pony. (Just kidding)

Some of your issues definitely warrant concern, but I think your braking shutter is not a factory issue. Sounds like the previous owner did a high speed panic stop and held the brake pedal for a while after stopping. The red hot brake-pad after a long panic stop will burn a pad-shaped scorch into the rotor, and every time after that when you stop , it causes a vibration when the brakes hit that scorch Mark. New rotors should fix this.

I have experienced the reverse to park shudder but rarely and only under certain conditions (Ie on a grade). I think is is not desirable, but I think normal.

i Don’t have any issues with downhill noise on a grade , or bucking at low speeds.

Hopefully if you re still under warranty, then continue to work with a Ford dealer to look at the other issues, particularly the transmission shifting problem.

Just another idea. If you bought used, and didn't do this, throw some bucks at a completely independent mechanic to do an inspection and road test. Some of those issues seem, uh, "typical" for this car's build. Weird rattles, etc. Maybe you can reset the car's TCM habits to fix the low speed shift? Seems worth a (free) try. Some seem either easily correctable assuming it's the obvious. Random chirps and lunges could even be a failing motor mount. Brake rotors- yeah those typically can't be turned. If someone did that, it's possible you needed brakes. Maybe the previous owner had them worked on to address the "whale sound". Heck, maybe that's why they dumped it.

You just need someone knowledgeable and willing to find the root causes.

Hey there,
If you plan on keeping the vehicle, get an extended warranty, and if there are any other dealers around, see if they have any better ratings. As one gentleman said, don’t settle with your dealer suggesting the situation with the breaks is normal.
OH, and yes, follow up with the person that reached out in this thread. Some of the things described happening at the same time could suggest something is funky with the transmission. Tranny repairs and Problem diagnoses is fairly specialized, and not all have highly trained skilled with an expertise in transmissions.
Not sure if you have goat mode or whether you have the paddles in to use pseudo manual transmission but I would suggest to try driving it in a different mode, or manual transmission, and on your slow drives, try to keep from shifting into the highest it wil allow. See if there are any differences in the you vehicle. If that noise behind the steering gets louder, or is a different pitch sound, then be suspect of the transmission. If the lunging goes away, then make sure you have a clean air filter, and if you have fuel injection, purchase a can of fuel injector cleaner spray and have a mechanic apply it
But above all else, if your mechanic is blowing you off and suggesting the lunging is moral. Or thd brake sound is normal, then try another dealer. Don’t settle for things that aren’t normal and try to get things fixed while under its original warranty.
BYW, I have a Badland 2022 sport. I had a winding type sound coming from behind the dash and also was not smooth a lower speeds, and at 16,500 miles the transmission just stopped functioning and ended up being replaced and all the issues that the machanic at the dealer I bought it from and was telling me. Things were normal, yet when the tranny was replaced the winding slug was gone and it has been operating great since then.
Good luck
